Old models still have value for me. Starting to assemble the new stuff prematurely before a large chunk of the pile of shame has been removed just feels wrong.

I need a great stripper to lapdance that paint off my models.

Oldhammer calls!!!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

There's also the option of a wholesale rebuild - breaking up old models/kits that were poorly done redoing them.

I've definitely done that as my skills have improved.

One other point about repainting: sometimes you don't need a full repaint, just a touch-up and maybe an added color for highlights. I can't tell you how many old units I refreshed in that way, and the cool thing is that it feels like getting new figures.

Want a better way to do fantasy/historical miniatures battles?  Try Conqueror: Fields of Victory.

Do you like Star Wars but find the prequels and sequels disappointing?  Man of Destiny is the book series for you.

I have refreshed old units before, and it is very quick and brings them up to par much faster and easier than a re-paint!

Yes, there is actually an old Baal Predator in my collection which is poorly assembled and painted from the 90s. I will need to break it up and repaint it in 40K Iron Hands colours. Vehicle construction rules are a thing in Oldhammer too (3rd 40K) so I don´t need to make things up in order to justify the loadout.

The Baal Predator retrofitted into 2nd was quite a thing. Twin-linked assault cannon meant six sustained fire dice. Basically you got one really nasty volley followed by two turns of clearing jams.

One of the annoying things about the churn (discussed elsewhere at length) is how weapons rise and fall, forcing players to rearm.

When we settled on 2nd, a lot of the refits were based around going back to the old datafax versions - not because those were the rules, but because those weapons worked better.
