Howdy Folks,

So who has tried any online vid-game rental services (e.g. Gamefly).  Any good stories, any horror stories?

I just signed up for the Gamefly free trial, so I'll let ya know how it goes, but if anyone uses 'em now what do you think?

Assuming the service works as advertised, it seems like a good deal considering 360 games are now $60 a piece.

Check their costs. Do you think they'll raise prices when the whole market is
60 dollars? I don't play enough to rent through mail. Maybe when I'm done with
grad school and the PS3 is released at under 500 USD I'll be able to rent for
any value.

Oh yeah, and quit teaching.

I joined gamefly after our local blockbuster never seemed to have games to rent. They were always checked out. Figuring that Gamefly was a big name, and seeing that Netflix was an excellent service, I figured gamefly would be the same. I was totally wrong. I've been with them almost a month now and they, or someone totally screwed up the first shipping. It had said that my two games were shipped, the ones my boys wanted and were very excited. The games never ever came. After filing a complaint they shipped out two more games, one of the original ordered games and a differerent one. Well, the different one arrived and the orginal ordered one again didn't show up. My boys, very disappointed... and if my boys are disappointed I'm even more disappointed. I don't know what is going on but I rate GAMEFLY as a very POOR SERVICE.

I then signed up to Intelliflix thinking that I would save some money being able to rent movies, adult movies, and games from one place. To start, they have a very limited movie selection, have all kinds of adult movies, and games. Being able to rent out 3 at a time I FINALLY after a week and a half got my selections. After returning all of them the next shipping only shipped out two out of three of the selections. After complaining no action was taken to correct the problem. And, in your Que... you put things in order the way you want them shipped to you. Doesn't matter, they ship what ever they have in stock. ANOTHER VERY POOR SERVICE.

Compared to Netflix, shipping out movie one day and, most of the time, receiving your next selection the following day... These two sites I just mentioned extremely fail this speed. Though Netflix don't have games... other sites trying to copy Netflix's idea should try to copy the quick service as well.

Needless to say I'm dropping everything and going back to Netflix. If someone as a Game site that is excellent to do business with please post it here so that I can join and make my boys happy again.

Thanks

Rich

I'm currently with Gamefly, I'm in my second month. I've been writting a blog (see other thread in this forum) about it. So far I've received the games I want, but it is slow for me out here on the east coast...averaging about 6-8 day turn around on games.

The other service I was looking at, and has received good reviews, is http://www.gamerang.com/

Unlike Gamefly, who only has one distribution center which is in CA, GameRang has 3 centers one west, one central, and one east. Suposidly their shipping is faster. Rates are the same as Gamefly.

If you do try them, please post your adventures here so we can see how it goes.

Happy Gaming!

Hmmmm. . .

I'd like to try Gamefly just to see what kind of shipping times I get out here on the West Coast. I am spoiled using Netflix, and would be disappointed if I didn't get the same level of service.

I guess if I had a two game service it wouldn't be so bad (cause you'd be playing one while you wait for another), but having 6-8 days of "dead time" in between your games just makes the savings the service provides to you very thin. . .especially if you get a damaged disk or an absolutely terrible game that you immediately want to send back.

P.S. I finished Burnout Revenge 100% on the 360 (took awhile), and now I found myself wanting to play Psychonauts again. So I am!

Russ

Did join the service you mentioned, for that east coast reason. Joined the same day that I posted here on the 18th... today is the 20th and still nothing... let's see if anything is in the mailbox on monday. Maybe I'm expecting too much cause of Netflix spoiling me....

Oh, by the way sent a copy of my previous post to gamefly and they cancelled me... was going to cancel anyways. But the b@stards charged me once, initially, then charged me again before my month was up... i'm talking about gamefly. So, I gotta write them about this.

I love gamerang already... Joined on the 18th and got my games, both, today on the 22nd. That's pretty decent service in comparing to Gamefly which I only got one game in 3 weeks, which I had to re-order the games during that period. Gamefly sucked and was a mess (see previous post). Not only did I get my games in quick time from Gamerang, they came all the way from the West Coast and I live on the East. Like you said Russ, Rang is to have an outlet on the East coast but isn't where these game came from... at least according to the envelopes.

Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang! Gamerang!
