Well, I got home yesterday from vacation. I fully intended to get some work done on the terrain, but then my HH box that I ordered while I was gone was here. I mean, what’s a fella to do with 50 marines that need building? So, now I’m assembling some Cataphracti Terminators with Lightning Claws, instead.

I’m making them all my own chapter. I’m not likely to ever play HH, so they’ll all fit under the regular 40k codex. Rather than two armies, or a founding chapter, or whatever, the Adeptus Brisonius just got 10 new terminators, 40 tactical marines, a new dread and a new tank. That almost doubles my standing force once I get them built and painted. Five termies assembled so far. I’m almost leaning toward buying a Mephiston red primer can to cut a step or two out of the process. But, they cost just a little more than the whole starter box did.

On a related note, has anyone done anything with the praetors? I’m wondering how easily they’ll convert to a chapter ancient, or some such thing.

I renamed my blog Hobby ADHD for a reason: I can't focus very well on any one thing.

I've been making bases for the new batch of marines. I glued down a couple different sands. Some friends of mine got married early-mid Covid. The venue closed down on a Wednesday, and the wedding was that Sunday. Mrs. Jazzy Jeff and I hosted it in the backyard. The practical hobby upshot of that decision was that they gave me all of the "Unity Sand" they bought. For those not familiar with the concept, the bride and groom each pour different color sand into a jar and then make a blend of colors together. It's romantic, or something. Anyway, they overestimated it pretty good and I have four or five jars of various sized sand now.

I also did some knife work on some poxwalkers and a chaos marine, may the blessed Emperor of Mankind reign forever. Glued those bits down and stood the terminators over them. The new dreadnought will be standing with its foot up on the chest of the corpse of a chaos marine, having just sent its tortured essence screaming back into the warp where its treachery belongs.

Then I have the factory terrain to finish, some resin graveyard terrain I bought to paint, and I have to build and paint the Mk VI marines from HH and the tank, the rest of the plague monks, another Verminlord, a plague engine, some stormfiends, and a couple of warp cannons, as well as finish figuring out my Tau scheme.

And if that wasn't enough, I just bought some more marines on ebay. Apparently. I don't really remember doing it, I might have been drunk. I found out I bought it when I got a message from the seller saying it hadn't shipped yet, so hopefully I didn't get scammed. But, assuming I didn't, I got 9 more Assault Intercessors to go with the 6 I got a little while ago. That'll put me to a good spot with those, I think.

I'll keep you updated as to how it turns out.

I've had a pretty productive weekend. 20 Beaky boys cleaned, assembled, and based. I broke down and bought a GW rattle can. It should arrive Thursday and I can get them and my terminators primed. If I can get my dread built, I'll prime that, too.

Woo, been a minute since any update.
Got the beakies and termies primed and base coated. Then, sort of got distracted/ lost interest or a moment. They're still all lined up on my desk though, so hard to ignore.

I put a little extra work into the base of the lil' dred from HH. Built an impact crater and slotted a body into it.

Also got these jetpack dudes finished. Not bad.

Then, I got totally into another project and started on the Sisters Novitiate Killteam. Picked a paint scheme that I like. Though, with the terra cotta flooring, the red osl of the plasma pistol, and the red/orange power sword, I might be overdoing it on the accent color. I might have to vary it a little bit more. What do you all think?

Good luck getting through the lines of primed minis, a batch that big can be daunting. The dred is on to a promising start, squashing a dead marine is classic! I like the glow on the assault marines, you’re getting that effect down now. Loving the turquoise on the ladies, it’s a colour I’ve not seen on their robes too often. I think the orange/red accent works on all elements so far, though I’d be tempted to push the sword to have a similar range of colours to the flames

I made a decision about the Tau. I'm going to convert them all into humans. What's that you say? Human conscripts in the T'au order are a thing that happens and every once in a while they let some in? No, silly! I'm not talking about humans who joined the Tau , I'm talking about humans who stole Tau suits and weapons . Just a good ol' bunch of rednecks with big robot suits.

So then, the question became, what would a bunch of rednecks do with fancy equipment? Well, I looked no further than Nascar for inspiration.

Every suit a unique color scheme, tied together by numbers. The only decision I have to make is whether or not to put a bunch of tiny sponsor logos on their suits. Surely in the far future there are companies that profit off of war?!

I'll update with better pictures soon, especially once I get the head swap conversion done. A group of redneck pathfinders are next; stay tuned!

Nice concept for the Tau, I’m trying to do a similar thing for my Skaven Tau. What’s your plan for the human infantry?

The suits are terrific- excellent work!

Definitely they need corporate sponsorship- one is a natural for Mountain Dew. The lightest colored one is probably sponsored by STP. Red and Yellow can only be the Golden Arches- McDonalds. Purple must be Royal Purple Extended Performance Oil. The suit sponsored by Doritos Inferno spicy chips is obvious. Not sure if the blue suit is Jet Blue or Blue Apron, or both.

You did say Redneck, right?

I have a squad of pathfinders I got in the ebay deal that are already built. I'm going to hold off on them for a moment. I'll have to do foot swaps on them. They only have 4 fingers, but I might just leave them and see if no one notices. They all have helmets on, but I might swap a couple of heads.

I bought some stuff off Anvil Industry some time ago. I built a couple of guys for Zona Alpha, and have enough heads and bodies to make most of a Pathfinder team. I have close to ten heads with beards and trucker hats, or just long hair and mustaches. Pretty good redneck heads all around.

I also bought the Kill Team Chalnath box. I built the sisters, but haven't done anything with the Tau yet. I haven't decided how much to use, and how much to swap out. I'll play around with the kits and see. At least feet and heads.

I thought about making them all essentially the same and modeling them like pit crew. And also making them all different like the robots. I'll play around with them and post some pictures of the results.

Thanks, Josh. I won't get bored with a set paint scheme this way. My Skaven are all unique and the bases tie them together. This will sort of be the same. I just didn't think I could paint another 100 sets of red power armor . . .

I did say redneck. I also thought of McD's when I was painting that red and yellow one. I was thinking of making up some Future-ish warhammer type corporations. Sort of like Quentin Tarantino's Red Apple Cigarettes or something. We'll see.
I'm planning on painting the HQ robots as #3 and #8, Dale Earnhart and Jr's cars. I'm not a Nascar fan by any means, but I know enough to know those two guys.

Any way, I'll keep painting. And keep posting. I probably won't finish anything any time soon. That'd just be too out of character.

I hear you. That's one of the many reasons I don't play 40K anymore-- I get bored painting essentially the same model over and over again.

Sweet idea DJ, the NASCAR colours certainly won’t leave you bored of a scheme! The flaming one is my favourite so far, but I reserve judgement until I see the Dales! I personally always liked Jeff Gordon’s DuPont colours. A bit of IndyCar Marlboro Penske and Menards would be cool too.

Pit Crew Pathfinders sounds like a good shout to me. Each squad could be matched to big suit team, maybe using black for their under armour to tie the different squads together?

I've got plenty of inspiration, that's for sure.
It's turning into a bit of a clown fiesta, though. None of the suits match at all or have any unifying scheme. The white with a number os only on the Tau logo, one on the arm, one on the chest. It's hard to see and doesn't unify the unit at all like I thought it would.

Even though my Skaven are eclectic and all different, they look a lot better together because of the huge green glow everywhere. I need something more like that to tie these "Tau" together.

I don't know. Feelin' down about it, but something'll come along. I'm just going to practice my Southern/Redneck phrases and it will all work out. 'Til then, I'll just have to stay as busy as a one legged man in a butt kickin' contest.

I can dig the vibe on not having a unifying theme for the group- they are most excellently painted, but very individualistic. Perhaps that's the unifying theme: these are suits just refurbished and being returned to their units to go back onto active service- they are at the RSOI base/facility (Reception, Staging & Onward Integration). The RSOI gets hit by an overwhelming force and they are scratch organized into a unit and have to hold the line until formed elements can relieve.

But maybe that dog won't hunt, eh?

I sniff what you’re stepping in, Meer Cat. But I don’t need help with that. They stole the suits and painted them themselves so that’s good. I need to buy some more weapons and then I can magnetize them. Maybe if I paint the guns the same it’ll look better.

I’m looking for something that ties them a little more together.

I think I’m going to paint some of the under layers and the lenses the same colors, and then if I do all the guns similarly it’ll do the trick.

New round of the League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Challenge is up!

I got to play some games this weekend. Two Boarding Action fights with some buddies. I brought my marines, and beat a force of Custodes golden boys by about 40 points. He's beaten me our last two games we've played so it felt good to take one from him. The next game I lost against some imperial guard when two squads unloaded their guns into my terminators. He rolled ridiculously well and nearly wiped the squad. Managed to almost win, only 10 or so points behind.

I haven't gotten a lot of hobby time lately. But, the added small efforts over time have gotten me some primed terrain. I'm not sure if I'll have time to finish before the end of the month and that of this round of the LoER Challenge, but we'll see.

Here are some pics of various stages of production. I still have to do all of the rust effects, then chipping medium and gray paint. Then it's only the simple task of free handing all of the graffiti that I like to do. No problem!
