Have only just got my teeth into playing the game and have to say really enjoying it!
I'm only about three missions in, love the exploration part and trying to sneak about without the aliens finding you, and then how quickly things can go south if you just try and do that one extra objective with a squad that is not really in good shape for it! The human opponents and other stuff I quite liked as they are picking up similar stories from some of the expanded universe and Aliens novels/graphic novels, and they do add a bit of variety. The RTS element I was apprehensive about at first, but I think it works wonderfully; your marines are generally pretty intelligent (other than when you have told them to hide and they just sit there as Aliens attack!) and you really have the feeling of being Goreman directing the squad. The campaign elements are similarly pretty good and give a great feeling of trying to look after your guys, even though I did manage to not know the name of one poor soldier who was dragged away by an Alien (how awesome is that?!) - sorry Marine!
My only criticisms are that the script is a bit hammy (although I can accept that) and the units responding loudly as you move them about - although I have now found the option to turn that off. Also the Sergeant shouting "WE'RE NOT ON LEAVE HERE" as your marines are hidden in a room trying to avoid the alien hunting parties outside does break the immersion a bit..
Thanks for some of the advice in the comments above - in particular the recon/sniper rifle combo which is immensely useful for taking out lone enemies and stopping a hunt from starting!

Has anyone else played the game on ps5? There is a game-breaking bug in the final level, final cut scene crashes the game. Tried playing it twice and got the same result. Looking at Reddit other people are reporting it, so don't know if the game will just have to go on the shelf until it is patched..
Annoying as hell as I have basically given myself a hard day at work tomorrow staying up playing until 1am, all for nothing. It seems a bug got Administrator Hayes in the end after all...

Mini patch that was released today for the Ps5 has resolved it
I would probably rate the game as a 3/5, or 4/5 if you're a big Aliens fan. Some great ideas and definitely has it moments when you are gunning down hordes of aliens or trying to escape and pull a wounded soldier to safety while being attacked, but it started to get a bit samey after a while. The human foes helped a bit in that regard, but there are only so many ways you can spin the same thing. The amount of bugs of the software sort (I played a few months after launch and it was still pretty bad), the hammy script and voice acting didn't help it, and some of the graphics models looked a little dated.
Overall I will say definitely really enjoyed it, despite the faults, but don't think I would want to replay it.

Agreed on all points.
Probably one of the top 10 games that I've played in the past 5 years, but its not something that I was in a rush to replay. I still have it installed on my PC, and I told myself I'd do a replay on the hardest mode, but I just don't have it in me.

Well this is interesting...
New Game+: The player have the possibility to start a new campaign in New Game+, by selecting a save from a previouvly finished campaign.
New Game+: Every marine may now reach the level 15, only in new game+.
New Game+: Marine's customization, traits and attributes are all conserved.
New Game+: Weapons, Xenotech and Upgrades have to be unlocked again.
It's part of the patch notes on Steam.

I probably missed fine print somewhere as my New Game + veteran have all lost a considerable amount of levels and associated skills / perks. Gear I was expecting, sure, but to also have them be set back to lower levels, that's a bit odd alright.

It looks like there are some bugs associated with NG+. For starters, a lot of people are complaining about marines missing - specifically, level 10 marines, and/or marines used in the final mission.

Some good news for those wanting to play new game + with their levelled marines; it's been fixed a while ago without any notification.
Hi everyone,
Thanks to your feedback, we worked on a hotfix to resolve the issue regarding your missing marines when launching a New Game + campaign. We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope you'll have a great time facing the new difficulty parameters we brought for you in the last update.
You should now properly get your marines when creating a NG+ campaign using a save created before the release of the New Game + Update but please note that in some cases the experience won during the Mission 11 Olduvai Dig Site will not be saved. If you want to be sure to have your marines with the experience gained during that mission please follow those steps:
Load your last Otago save or your last Olduvai Dig Site (Mission 11) save
Complete the mission 12: Redemption
Go back to the main menu
Disclaimer: This hotfix is aiming players creating New Game + campaigns based on campaign saves that were created before the release of the New Game + update. For the players that already created a NG+ campaign and have some marines missing, you will need to create a new NG+ campaign if you want to get back all your marines. We are once again sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you for your patience. Have a great time playing Aliens: Dark Descent!
