Not really looking forward to painting the two MO starters and the gakload of other minis I ordered.
But inspiration will come soon enough. :-)
Maybe after my mates funeral and my moving out of my apartment. Not really much time to paint while apartment hunting. :p

I did a little more work on finishing my UCM Starter Set - I'm working on 3 Rapier AA Tanks and 2 dropships all at the same time.

I also finished assembling my second Strider, this time it's a Plague Strider.

I still need to put together a strider. It won't do to have six of them in storage =/

Hey Compel, help me out of my ignorance, UCM starter set?

Today in addition to freezing to death and strategizing about stripping the windows and what not, I've put together my three trucks from Mars Attacks! Still waiting on the wheels to dry.

My UCM Starter Set as they currently stand:

The 3 Rapier AA Tanks on the left, plus 2 of the 3 dropships still to be painted.

Here's my Scourge Starter set. These guys have been painted for a while.

And here they are all together, this is what you get in the Dropzone Commander Starter Box Set.
I still think, even with Operation Icestorm for Infinity now released, it is the best starter set out there.

Hawk Wargames have done a great job in making the game scale up. The game works on a similar points scale to 40k. - You've got 550-ish points there and you've got a neat little starter scenario (Lightning Raid) that I haven't gotten bored of yet, despite playing it more than 20 times now. - There's also a variant I received of it for when I want to shake things up a little more.

I then scale things up to 999 points, by adding a few extra units in (Commander, a Scout squad, then another squad of your choice, normally) and you've got a completely different game but it definitely feels like a proper game. - Usually 1000 point games of 40k are a bit, well, sad and rubbish, to be perfectly honest.

Then you can add in elements of a second starter set, or some other things that are completely different to bring you up to 1500 points, the tournament standard. - However, I've still only played a couple of 1500 point games, I need to get better at learning weapon stats etc first.

Then you can go to your 1999, 2000 point games for your 40k classic 'all evening' games and, of course, it scales up to 3k, 3.5k which would be your apocalypse level games and pretty darn impressive to see.

So you get 9 paper buildings and how big is that mat? I've got to say you're kind of selling me on this Is it igougo or something else?

Oh I guess it's 10 buildings and a 48''x33'' mat. That's pretty cool. Not sure I care for any of the factions though, but i've only had a cursory look.

The various starter armies (4 of which cost £35, with the 5th, all resin one being £55), are all balanced against each other, so you can just slot the army you want into the starter scenario, which is awesome.

I will admit, I have heard a few people saying that the factions don't appeal to them. However, I am normally a bit perplexed by this.

Because, well, Giant Robots, some of which look like Giant Scorpions.

I repeat. Giant Robots.

The game is 'Alternate Activations' - armies are split into 3-7 'Battlegroups' which comprise of 1-Several distinct squads. Each player activates a battlegroup and moves/shoots with it, then the other player does the same until all Battlegroups are activated and the turn ends. - The person who choses who activates a battlegroup first is determined by an initiative roll at the beginning of every turn, with modifiers dependant on the rank of their Commander. - Assuming he's still alive, that is.

I go into a bit more detail about the game on my blog in the Misc forum.

It's actually really fun. A friend and I had a demo game at a con recently. Your list is broken into battlegroups, and each battlegroup (at least in the starter scenario) is a dropship with what it is transporting, though from what I understand you break it up yourself. Our demo giver also added a pair of fast movers (light, super fast aircraft) to the starter forces for fun.

You and your opponent activate battlegroups alternately, at your own choice. So my friend activated anti air to bring them up, I activated my infantry units early to start taking objectives. He activated hi infantry so he wouldn't fall behind, I activated my armour to try and counter his anti air. He activated his armour to try and counter my armour, I activated my anti air since I knew where all of his dropships were. It creates a really fluid game.

On topic, I'm having a game of Infinity today after a break that feels like forever.

Thanks Loki, if I ever get to play my current games for a bit, that sounds like something to try out

Currently I'm working on finishing the scenery for (and picking the positions of the actors) my current diorama: Samurai Showdown (working title).

If anyone would like to help me pick the final arrangement I've made a poll as I'm having trouble deciding!

Currently three arms short of having a KoW wraith half-regiment (10-man squad) cleaned and assembled, so they should be done as soon as I stop tooling around on Dakka.

Been focusing on clearing out smaller (by most hobbyist's standards, at least) projects, lately, which has largely meant miniature boardgames. Finished the Corporation Marines from Project Pandora, most recently, and am putting the wraiths together as a "filler" project while the primer cures on the Veer-myn half.

Next up... I hope to tackle the remaining undead to round out my DKH: Dead Rising set. The dwarves and half of the skellies have been done for ages, but I still haven't gotten around to those last models (less than ten, including the rat/dog and bone piles).

If that was directed at me, GrimDork, then no. Only a scant few pictures are in my gallery and they're exclusively ancient and crappy. I don't hobby (yes, that's a verb, now) as much as I'd like to (or as much as I complain about not hobbying... or use parentheses, it seems), so I'm generally loth to divert any of that limited time and energy to photography.

Well, either that or I don't want to dispel the illusion of expertise. For all the Dakkanauts in P&M know, I actually practice what I preach and to good effect. Displaying mediocrity would be doing the site a disservice.
