Much appreciated. He's a resilient little bastard, so I'm not too worried, now that the surgery is over and he came up from anesthesia without issue. Any semi-serious problems he's had prior, he's recovered in a third of the time the vet estimated. Actually just got an update saying he'll be stable enough for release tomorrow, although still a ways off from fully recovered.

I do wish I could dive right into my pile (more of a styrene pile, though - think I have as much restic and Bones plastic on deck as metal and all three only account for about 10%), but I need to make up for missed work, first, then try to weasel my way out of another shift or two for post-op care. The wife's work is always the priority (neuroscience grad student - lots of money tied up in any given experiment) and we can't just leave him alone, so that means bowing and scraping and finagling, on my part...

Assembled Dreadclaw. Now to get all 5 'legs' to touch at the same time! Go go heatgun! After that, a bit of greenstuff and some Krylon fusion for a basecoat later.

Today I greenstuffed a replacement engine for the OOP Aquila, then dutifully hot-watered the mould and destroyed the evidence.
it's going to have two right handed engines and fly in circles.

Good luck! It's very honorable of you to look after the pup like that. I know some folks say "they're only animals", but it's not my view at all.

My only experience with animal post-op care was a very elderly, tiny bunny. She had general anaesthetic and didn't recover her body-heat, the vets gave her back to us so she could fade-out at home. I carried her inside the front of my shirt for a day and when I couldn't, made up hot water bottles every hour, going home between classes to replace them. She thankfully made another few years. It sounds so stupid now, but she was deeply important to my mum.

I was with both of my wee little rats when they died, too sad, don't think I can have any more of those, they don't last long.

I managed to nearly finish my dreadnought tonight. He's actually looking kind of cool from 3 feet away in dim light I need to attack him with a silvered sponge and do some more work on lenses and stuff... but preeety close I guess.

I also put down the basecoat on my next jungle scenery tile, and the undercoat for the liquid storage tank that goes with it.

Dread goes to Paradigm's painting comp, the scenery will be entered in the LoER terrain comp if I can get it done in the next day or two.

Good to hear that your dog is doing well and likely to recover.

As for hobby.. I'm feeling quite ill today, so I've just tried to finish off a bolt thrower that I started yesterday (and did most of the work on yesterday). I just took it outside to varnish ...having forgotten that I completely forgot to paint the ropes. So now I can touch those up in 8-10 hours or tomorrow, when the varnish is properly dry.

It's one of those days. I turned the PC monitor on so I could use my laptop. Plugged the USB mouse into the ethernet port. You get the idea. I've even got mild dyslexia when trying to talk. I think I might need to go to bed very early, write today off and try again tomorrow.

The Hobby Gods have smiled on me this fine morn! Or, alternatively, have offered incentives to the effect of "Get yer ass back to that painting desk and PAINT, damn you!"

Went down the town to post a letter, and see the local news agent has a sign saying "Further Reductions on all Games Workshop". Previously it's been 25% off, so no better than Darksphere/Wayland, but today it was about 45% to clear, so I walk out with a Grey Knight Terminator squad I had no plans on buying any time soon. Hard to say no for £15!

Then, on the way back I pop into a Charity Shop and found not 1, not 2, but 11 Horus Heresy paperbacks in near-new condition for 50p each! Leaving aside the first 4 I already have, I came away with:

Prospero Burns
A Thousand Sons
Mechanicum
Battle for the Abyss
The First Heretic
Fulgrim
Legion

For under £4!

Today is going well!

Nice

I hope to seal and photograph my dreadnought later... and this morning I got the basecoats down on the rest of the stuff for my scenery piece... just gotta dip it, then go back in and rust it once that's cured. Well the tank, not the jungle.

Finish painting my elven ranger, get started on the warrior priest.

If I'm really good today,,get the whole warband finished, and get back to work on my grey Knights and space marines, so I can have my legal 1500 - 1850 tournament lists painted and ready to go.

Edit: ipad seemed to have had a stroke. Or I bad at typing on it.

Looking good there! Any fluff reason for the bright red turret, or is it just aesthetic?

Got my GKTs built, and summonned up enough Bits-fu to throw together a passable Librarian as well. Now trying to reorganise my GK into a passable force.... which is getting complicated. I built a Purifier/Paladin list even back before Crowe-wing was cool, but that now leaves me with a lot of overpriced minis, confused setups and not a Troops choice or decent HQ in sight!

I'm thinking I'll go for a real MSU list, mostly or all DSing, and see how that works out if I ever get to use them.

Did what I could for my LoER scenery piece... it's getting there, the drying time on the minwax is the killer though. I may go spray seal and photograph my dread.

If I get anything else done.. I may see about printing some signs for the liquid storage tank... a warning about not using it in humid areas (it's a jungle terrain piece) covered up by a (now peeling off to reveal original sign) multi-terrain all-weather stamp of approval

Oh and I may be a little crazy for this.. .but I'm seriously considering making a dropship out of Mantic's battlezones. Just had an idea pop into my head, dunno if it's even feasible yet.

A BZ dropship would certainly prove the theory that Battlezones are just Lego for grown-ups!

Got a single GK painted and based, 2 more primed for the morning. For not having painted a GK (or anything fully metallic), pretty happy with him. Pics tomorrow, light permitting...

Well... basic outline looks like it would be Ginormous... Maybe too fat to live even... we'll see. I need to harvest a bunch more connectors and pick and choose pieces till I can better gauge the scope of the project.

The measurements right now would comfortably house a landraider with room on the sides and probably enough to park a rhino sideways behind it.. or so. Still gotta fiddle and see if there's a good way to make a cockpit out of BZs too.

Well, not sure if it can be considered a hobby, but I finished building a rifle I have been working on. Threaded and chambered a custom match barrel on a lathe, reblued it after a good polish and media blast, made the stock from a blank piece of wood and shaped it using files, planars and a sanding block.

I just slipped up and ended up with my mouth full of Nuln Oil.
On the plus side, I didn't get any down my shirt. On the downside I look like I've been kissing Marliyn Manson all evening.

Spent most of this evening re-stripping figures I forgot I left soaking and allowed to dry out, and painting the back wall of an ork scene. That at least wasn't dreadful.

So a bit more hobbying...

Trying to make a ship out of battlezones tiles. All of the ruins tiles, doors, and stuff like that won't be there, it'll just be made of various solid tiles. Probably one of those floor tiles with the small man-sized square hold in them to let the pilots get into the cockpit from the body...

I'm kind of happy with the shape, the cockpit, the gun is the whole reason this thing came about... make a ship big enough to have a laser flak cannon I need some of you smart folks to help advise me on how to finish it out though...

Does it VTOL? Should I be looking into attaching thrusters to the sides of the ship? This would allow me to put the egress ramp on the back end, easily allowing even a land raider to roll out...

Or should the back have a bank of thrusters and the bottom have some kind of thrusters/repulsors to generate lift? I could then just add some decorative fins/wings coming off the sides but I'd have to
figure out where the people would exit.. I'd be stuck with making the side bits able to open, and or having a port at the front.

Any bright ideas Dakka?

It's a homage to the cover art of Tallarn Executioner, which has a pair of Russ tanks on it with greyish hulls and red turrets. Seeing as most of my own tanks will be factory grey, I like the idea of a veteran adding something of a personal touch to his ride.
