Trying to decide what to get. I've got what amounts to a $60 amazon gift card and I intend to spend it on some kind of miniatures/paint/boardgame. I was saving up for Zombicide but the more I look at the box contents the more sure I am that I would struggle to paint that many duplicate sculpts. I know I could do some head and arm swaps but a lot of those sculpts are distinctive to the point that such measures wouldn't matter. The fatty is the fatty, for instance.

Amazon isn't exactly a deep well of reasonably priced hobby items though, so I'm struggling to find stuff to buy.

I know a few of you guys have been doing the D&D Adventure System board games... think they're worth it?

Oh, painted some stuff:

Cult ritual ring from reaper, giant bug and human resistance guy from Mars Attacks.

The D&D board games are good fun, and definitely worth it if you plan to play with non-gamers at all. The rules are dead simple, the enemy models are all AI controlled so it's fully co-op, and they're all cross-compatible, so you could run the heroes from Ravenloft in a mission from Ashardalon, for example, or swap the monster deck from Temple to Ravenloft ect.

The one I have (Ashardalon) can be dead hard, and with the random effects/traps/curses ect in play very, very brutal (you'll come to hate the player that draws the Blades trap or the Earthquake card! ), but it's also both very fun and at times, hilarious as the enemies just pile up and that moment comes where you realise you're kiting about a dozen enemies...

Definitely worth it if you can get a good price, the game itself is great and the minis range from so-so but mercifully quick to paint to really rather decent (similar to the better Bones stuff). The big monster minis are definitely nice, and all of it could also be used for proper D&D if you ever do that.

Cool, I read a little about them on their pages on amazon and your outlook is pretty similar to what I've seen. I also saw that they had another set of Dungeon Command boxes (sounds like that's a skirmish game or something) that involved cards allowing you to port those things into the Adventure system.

I'm such a Salvatore fanboy that I'd probably have to get the Drizzt set first, even if the monsters included seem to be fairly esoteric/less useful for general purposes.

Recovering from being defeated twice in Bag the Hun yesterday, not a lot of hobby time today but have finished a Soviet rifle platoon in 15mm - well finished the models, the bases will have to wait. Hope to have a further platoon this week.

These are the newer BF plastic Strelkovy, not bad gaming figures, a few bits of filled in areas covering up undercuts but not too bad, the metal models are better but these are cheaper and I think "good enough", especially for a Strelkovy horde that can work nicely with metal command models and enough metals that a smaller game doesn't use them. In effect they are the padding.

That said, while painting by layering does look very nice I must be made to be doing it on Soviets.. Looks good but so very thankful the Soviets didn't use came or carry a huge amount of kit.

I quite like me some D'n'D adventure board games - Ashardalon has the best minis and is piles of fun.

A Protoss colony world

Played a couple of 1500pt. games of 40k against a friend. My Dark Angels Ravenwing (in a Ravenwing Strike Force) vs. his Khorne Daemonkin. I stomped him both times, but mainly it wasn't that my list was amazeballs so much as his just could not handle it. He had 2 D-thirsters and 2 10-man squads of Khorne Berserkers in Land Raiders. I had two squads of grav bikes and a fully tricked-out RWCS with Darkshroud support, as well as several single land speeders. In both games he quit at the end of turn 2, with most of his army already destroyed and very little of mine damaged. I felt bad beating him that badly, but I wanted to try out my tournament list and he was planning to use the list he brought in the same tournament. I hope he reconsiders, given how badly he lost.

As for what else I did today, it was a rare balmy day here, and I managed to get the pieces of my Stormsurge primed. No more excuses, now I have to paint it!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Finished the last of my BaC smurfs this evening including basing and decal application.

All that remains is a 10-man squad of Word Bearer legionaries and I'll have the game completely painted. This has gone a lot quicker than the 2-3 years it took me to finish painting Space Hulk 3rd edition.

Looking around toy stores for a dusty copy of Assault on Black Reach...

I've managed to find WHFB: Battle for Skull Pass and LOTR: Mines of Moria still in stock in some countries and seeing as I skipped out on 5th edition, I figured it would be fun to try find the intro box as new. Also considering picking up a Dreadfleet if I can haggle the price down.

Fresh blade, but I make sure it's sterilized before I start every session of hacking away at things.

Scratch 1 more Seeker and Tactical. Just 7 minis to go now. It occurred to me a minute ago that this will actually be my first fully painted, fully based, complete 40k army, after 6+ years of playing the game... That's both alarming and quite motivational...

Turns out I couldn't even get one of the bases done, as the little one decided that if Dad was playing with the little green bases, so was he!

Let's see if I can do it today.

While true, I still fear the sharpest of blades.

Today I'm painting some mantic gores for a gore riders regiment and watching Critical Role.

I've always heard that a dull blade is more dangerous than a sharp one, because dull blades can get stuck and then come unstuck suddenly and then next thing you know you've cut yourself to the bone.

As for what I'm doing today, I'm trying to finish the second batch of Tau Breachers, gonna shade them in just a few minutes, then I need to brighten them back up.

Raided the bits box to put together a Delegatus/generic PA commander for my HH force, as I needed something that's not as ludicrously pricey as a TDA Praetor or kitted out Forge Lord, and that I could also use to unlock Pride of the Legion at lower points (my Vigiliator model is armed only with a Bolter, he'd make a terrible solo HQ as a Delegatus!). Pretty awesome results, I think, but I'm going to hold off painting him until the March painting challenge as other than him and the BaC stuff I plan to finish this week, I have no Space Marines spare! Not been in that situation in a while!
