How hard is it to repaint a diecast metal toy for wargaming use????
I really want to start a company now that makes cheap plastic model kits for wargaming purposes. Like those 5 Chinese tanks that sell for 16.
Like for 40K, they made the Leviathan a plastic kit. So they went from a resin kit that takes 5 minutes to glue parts together to a super complicated plastic kit that will take a couple of frustrating hours to build. I like modelling and converting, don't get me wrong. But there is no reason to make things hard for a wargaming kit.
Repainting die cast is ready if you don't mind painting over the existing paint. Not that hard to modify either with a Dremel.
Hard plastic is a tough business to get into, but if you're looking for cheap tanks, the Tehnolog sci Fi tank becomes available periodically. Very simple to assemble with multiple build options.

Speaking of cheap.....man I should kick myself. I wanted to get a couple more of those LightYear Armadillos and they went up in price. I got my 2 on sale for 14 each.
I'm hoping since the movie tanked already they put them on sale to sell them. But 24.99 for one.....too pricey!
OK here is something crazy. They are selling for 39 to 50+ on ebay ! In the US, before shipping!

Thanks for the tip off, Kid!
Summoned one of these from Amazon for about $40 after tax. Plan is to glue a bunch of panels shut and repaint it to match my BFG / 40k Slaanesh marines. Need to make me one of those huge acrylic rod flight stands too. Landed pod is probably the best use there. Anything to keep me from painting actual models for the army

Alas, my toy budget for this month has been spent. I hope they are available next month.

You can remove the base and it will stand level on it's own. It was almost unchanged (Except for the base) over decades of production.
Here's mine. The panels in the foreground are removable doors for the elevator.

I got Dakka Gallery to work. I figured out Imgur for another board. Thanks for the tip!

I'm sure there were good reasons for the update, but the new one doesn't have nearly the realism or usefulness of the old one. Luckily old ones are plentiful and cheap used.

They now include a four legged bug alien with green missiles for the launchers atop a small scorpion like projection. Launcher comes off easily and the nib that held it snips pretty good.
These are about the size of the mongoose warrior arachnids(2-3” depending on how you move the integrated legs). At $1.25 apiece, they will make great stand-ins or bigger bugs for the new wargames Atlantic aluen insect release .

Those are good ones. My favorites so far are the 2 pack of smaller bugs that I suspect will still be bigger than the WGA bugs.
The style is not too different. I think between WGA and Dollar tree one could make a pretty good Tyranid or SST Bug force for a relatively modest amount of cash

The picture helped convince me to take your advice and I took the base off of my childhood toy. 1987 it was made, then cars for years, then army men, then my sons cars and now my waay more expensive army men. Long life of play for this toy. I'll base what I do off of your picture plus w/e inspiration I get. I guess these stickers gotta go.
