Hi all,
Finally got around to posting this.
My son designed these Robo-Chickens last year (when he was 11.) He loves chickens and robots, so he used TinkerCad to digitally sculpt these. I asked Lord Marcus if he could 3-D print homemade digital sculpts, and fortunately he said yes. I meant to put these painted versions up ages ago (they were Christmas gifts for the grandparents,) but better late than never. I just wanted to properly, publicly thank Lord Marcus for making these possible, and to let Dakka forum members know that McDougall Designs can do this sort of thing.
The second image shows a partially repainted Heroclix Judge Dredd fleeing from the fully painted Robo-Chickens. Poor Dredd - I still need to get back to finishing him.

Dredd should be positively terrified. Those are excellent paint jobs!
Thank you so much for sharing!

Technically no, that was not discussed and those prints were treated as a custom order.
Happy stock day!

Hi all,
It's easy to overlook on the McDougall Designs website, so I just thought I'd point out that Max has a blog showcasing some of his own work (currently some very well-painted skeletons): https://mcdougalldesigns3d.com/blogs/news/owners-blog-personal-hobby-projects.
Apparently he's not just another johnny-come-lately venture capitalist getting into the miniatures industry for fast wealth, glitz, and glamor, but a genuine, lifelong hobbyist like the rest of us.
Nice to see your handiwork, Max.
(If this post seems suspiciously friendly towards a business that I'm not affiliated with, keep in mind that McDougall Designs printed my son's miniature. That sort of thing will generate goodwill in even the crustiest customer.)

I'm addressing this now. thank you for bringing it to my attention.
@Vermonter:
Yes, I have been a hobbyist since I was 10, and I'm turning 30 in November.
Unless I'm working on a commission, or an army project for a escalation league, most of my hobby time is painting printed example models for the store, or experimenting with conversions from items that are purchasable on my store (Mantic stormforged orcs and WGA einherjar heads, for example.)

Whoops, sorry about garbling the link.
Like the new post - my favorite element is the steely blue glowing eyes of the Einherjar. Never would have thought of that.
Highlord Tamburlaine played around with giving the Riftforged Orcs sci-fi weapons from the Marauder sprue to make Ceremonial Guard sci fi Orcs or somesuch in his Obscurities in Miniatures review of the Deadzone Marauder sprue. The combination, briefly shown, looked pretty good to my eye, better than the ordinary hard plastic Marauders, which seem to have softer detail, especially on the sides.

Understood. I'm sure there are plenty of arm options you could do. the connection points are rather large, and flat joins, so easy to pin and match up.
The last few days of June see the closing out of the dire elf spearmen sale. if you are looking for prep a legion of 10mm dire elves for invasion, now's the time.

in other news, I've unburied a whole swathe of sprues when i was doing my storage clearout, which I will be adding to the store later today.

Do you pin connections on Mantic's hard plastic miniatures? Pinning originated with metal miniatures because the heavy lead / pewter limbs are more prone to breaking off and need the reinforcement. But with light polystyrene plastic, is it still necessary?
Just asking for your personal opinion in the interest of optimizing time investment with optimum results. I've pinned some of Mantic's PVC miniatures in the past just to be thorough, but in retrospect I've wondered if that investment of time and effort was really necessary. (The only PVC Mantic Mini I didn't pin that later broke apart was the Strider, which snapped at the pivotal leg / foot join, but that miniature is quite large and that connection point is under a fair bit of stress.)
I have found that some of Mantic's hard plastic ball-and-socket areas are too shallow to make for strong joins, like the neck holes on their Asterian Marionettes, but drilling those out fixes that.

The investment of time and effort is a subjective thing. I may think it's necessary for extra reinforcement, but it's always just part of the toolbox and options if I need to get a stronger join.
Typically though, plastic miniatures are (industry-wide) designed to go well together on their own with plastic cement, or at least it's always been my opinion.

Max, have you ever thought about carrying sprues from Frostgrave and Stargrave?
(Full disclosure: I'm pretty well caught up on North Star's current hard plastic releases, so I'm asking more with an eye to future releases.)
North Star's line seems like a logical compliment to the Wargames Atlantic sprues you carry. But as a consumer rather than distributor, there are probably important price differentials between the two that I'm not aware of. Perhaps North Star's line makes less business sense to a US seller?
I'm just asking for two reasons: I've become fond of North Star's various "grave" plastics, and I'd rather give my sprue business to you in the future than some random ebay seller.

I've thought about it. Margins, and thus discount, would be lower, and I need to find a supplier with consistent stock levels.
Furthermore, it's also a supply of capital for me at the moment. I need to see more sales from Wargames Atlantic and mantic stuff before I can commit to another line.
I do have a line of fireforge, but again that would be a lower discount.

I order on the 10th of the month. Any special order requests after the 10th go on next months order sheet.
