I know I'll be told, "b... bu... but... GW... better". Maybe, sometimes, but those 36 skeletons are, what, 20 years old and were condemned on release as poor as well?

These are some of my favourite fantasy models of all time. Such a good kit.

Sure they got some negative reviews online from people that have no patience, all they require is for building them in batches and let the legs/torso parts dry before you can add arms and heads to avoid them bending apart before the plastic cement has set. But its not a big a deal as some people made out.

I think that the main negative was that for some unknown reasons (like seriously why?!) feet are separate. Other than that they are one of the better looking skellies out there.

The fact they are not 'Egyptian' style isn't that much of an issue when GW don't even give you enough TK heads to build whats in the starter set without using the standard skeleton heads. Just buy a single box of TK and mix and match the parts where you can. I'll be making a couple of BIG units for TKs with this kit and I'll just use the TK banner top and a champion sword for the units.

I'll be buying a few more of the warlord games sets this year, 200 skeletons is not enough!

The Warlord Games skellies look great, but they're a bit flimsy. I get nervous handling them.

GW's chunky old skellies are at least a bit more robust.

I went through an absolute money pit of skeleton kits trying to find suitable ones for classic Warhammer Quest. You need a lot (by boardgame standards) to run the Undead adventures, and no kit on the market at the time had enough bows for all the archers. After much digging and grave robbing of damaged models on eBay I ended up using Wargames Atlantic skellie bodies and heads plus Warlord Games skellie arms and bows to fill out the numbers. But the proportions didn't look quite right, so now I've circled all the way back around to GW Tomb Kings bony bowmen again. At least they have that old-school WHQ look. In the process I've accumulated enough spare skellies to do an Old World army. Well, maybe a smallish 4th ed WFB one...

On the subject of ordering TOW stuff, is anyone else still waiting on their Made to Order items from the last wave of Brets and TKs? I saw a few people got theirs promptly, but I'm still waiting for mine. I ordered toward the end of the MtO period though.

GW might have had some MtO stock already cast up and ready to go to meet the initial demand. In which case, worth keeping in mind for upcoming Made to Orders.

Yes, I am still waiting on my MTO order, it was 2 bretonnians on horses and a handful of the tomb kings on foot. Ordered about halfway through the MTO period, maybe a bit more than halfway. No sign yet.

Still waiting on the Forces of Fantasy book to become widely available. I've been able to do a couple test games (Counts vs. Brets) with some online army builders, but having an actual book for army building would be really, really nice.

Man, the new main rulebook is so much clearer and easier to read (though the constant reference to abilities that reference more abilities is annoying). I don't know why the conversational tone of 8E and prior wasn't dumped a long time ago.

Just on the contrary here.

I bought Beastmen at the LFGS, and also bases. Right now I'm finishing basing and staring painting. We are going to start a league locally.

Was that stuff they already had in stock though, Beastmen have their full range of Fantasy stuff as an AoS army.

My store must have been late on trying to get bases then, the only thing they have been able to get for square bases was a single pack of 30x60mm cavalry bases I immediately picked up.

The vanguard box, they had to order to GW.

Also, another guy is building warriors of chaos. IMO that's the army with the best chances right now: lots and lots of kits and nice miniatures + Warcry to customize

That is awesome! Lizardmen seem to be in a relatively good spot for getting models since they just got a fresh range for AoS that mostly works for Old World.

Feel like the Legacy armies kind of won out overall versus the Core armies for mini choice, except Warriors of Chaos like you had mentioned. Those minis look amazing.

How exactly do I order the Knights on Foot? Or any of the Brettonian stuff? I haven't ordered from GW in years and can't seem to figure out how to buy anything?

Step 1 is waiting for the day of the preorder. Step 2, open the site before ten am local time to get a spot in the queue. Step 3, once you can finally access the site again, how to Shop > New & Exclusive and scroll down past the irrelevant items to the actual preorders.

You can practice that last bit now but the Bretonnia stuff won’t be there until Saturday.

Thank you for this. What a huge bother. I don't have time for that! I'll just look at the Brettonians from afar like I have been since I was a teen.

Indeed, TOW might be the best thing GW ever did for AoS given how many people have disregarded any and all concerns about legacy/legends rules and dove into the forbidden factions with AoS kits. It seems that Legacy factions have a larger player base than the Core factions do, though to some extent that might be due to non-availability of most of the Core factions model ranges.

That may be part of it, but probably not as large a part as you may think. Storm of Chaos showed that there's generally a wider variety spread of the armies than 40K(even before the 14 Marine books came about). It helps that only 2 of the armies have ever been in multiple starters so there's less of a "Face of the Game" faction: Orcs and Goblins(Goblins in 4th and 7th, Orcs in 6th) and High Elves(4th and 8th).

Thing is Space Marines are both a risky marketing move (all eggs in one basket) and also something that isn't really repeated in any other wargame range.

Even when GW has tried to replicate the same marketing approach it only kind of worked in AoS. Basically Marines are an exception rather than the norm in terms of being the face of the setting. Lets not forget it wasn't just the game, BL lore and a lot of artwork very specifically focuses on the Marines. Many famous bits of Xeno art with other races are with Marines.

It both creates a focal point, but also an unhealthy balance in army popularity. Old World, AoS, etc... all tend to feature a much more broad spread of popularities and chances are it also shifts much more readily based on what got the hottest new models; the most overpowered rules; the most attention for a given period of time etc....

I figure the legacy factions have more chatter because their models are accessible through Age of Sigmar; and also because they are being "denied" by the system and thus that in itself generates more ire and chatter around them.
Furthermore main-factions that aren't yet out yet are likely stuck in a waiting pattern. People want them, but they aren't going to chat about them as much until there's a deadline and release and GW marketing behind them. Until then people into those armies can't even access models for most of the mbecaus the 2nd hand market will have skyrocketed the prices which instantly puts the dampeners on things

Green Knight returning in metal is most welcome news indeed. Have on occasion been tempted to acquire it as a painting project (of which I do admittedly not need more...), but most I found second hand were in poor state, ridiculously priced, and/or Finecast.

Will hold off on buying some other direct-only items from GW I had planned to order until seeing what pricetag they slap on him; based on other re-releases I imagine they will roll around 8 D6 and consider the sum value of those to be a reasonable price.

The MTO metal Hero on Pegasus was £25 in the UK, which is very reasonable by current GW standards.

Based on the size of the mini, and therefore the amount of metal required, I hope the Green Knight will be a similar price.

Comedy option, they keep it cheap so the royalty payment to Michael Perry isn't as much. I can't remember exactly when royalties ended but I wouldn't be surprised if the Bretonnian range was the tail end of it.

I wonder if TOW has brought that particular spectre to light again or if they canceled the royalty plan at some point?

Green Knight predates the rest of the Bretonnian range, though.

In spite of not being up on the Warcom article this past Sunday the Bretonnian Field Trebuchet is on the NZ pre orders. No sign of the bone giant for TK players though.

The Knights Errant building 12 for a single box is perhaps one of the best value cavalry units GW has done since until now its been 3 with metal and plastic (same horses) for the same price for Brets and 5 cavalry for most other boxed set releases GW has done. So that's a nice treat considering that Knights Errant/Realm are the core of the army.
