for a short time I hoped that we would also get the old models back and not the bad ones
(the 7th core ones are the worst from all they ever made, parts are not exchangeable between the 2 sets and the style is neither fits the older metal nor the newer plastics)

From the metal models, nothing that I don't have but maybe some classics will come later

Brand new. The unreleased one looked nothing like this quality. Personally I’m pretty glad it never got released.

I really like all 4 of the new Dwarf models.

Don't know if it's just the paint job, but even for Warhammer dwarves these are excessively cartoony.

It's most definitely the paintjob; it is a rare thing these days that I actually like the paintjob on a warhammer model from the studio.

I have to say, that Ungrim model looks awesome. I think it's the least cartoony dwarf I've seen from GW in quite some time.
The thane with handgun also looks very nice.
The one model I don't really like is the plastic lord/thane on foot, but that comes as a sort of bonus in the box with the lord with shieldbearers, so I'm indifferent about that.

I also like the character that all the models have. All those Fyreslayer characters started to bleed together with how boring and devoid of character they were.

That Ungrim is tempting even my elf heart to start dwarves while waiting elves to appear.

Is that the one where the mould supposedly got damaged before release?

Yep. That sprue sold for $2000 a month or two ago on eBay

There’s also a dwarf tank or something that never got released too

I noticed the plastic dwarf engineer/cogsmith wasn’t listed. I’m guessing the slayer of legend is the plastic dragon slayer/aos grombrindal

He was but Thorek is back as an anvil of doom, the plastic lord on oathstone is presumably Belegar, etc.

The article did mention two returning familiar characters. Not sure if that meant Thorek, or Bugman, or Malakai

I assumed Malakai would be with his goblin hewer and the other returning character would be Gotrek (pre-Felix).

I’m hoping it’s young Thorgrim. I can’t remember but didn’t they saw a prince would be coming? Unless that’s Ungrim

Somebody was selling a whole stack of the dwarf king sprue at something like €50 a sprue a couple of years ago, a whole bunch of them made it around the studio before the accident to the mould.

There a a number of dwarf characters around that were already accomplished warriors at this time.
One of the two returning characters, as qe have already seen, is Ungrim, who a few years after made for a strong contender for the position of high king.

Gotrek was still very young; he could remember his father fighting at Hell Fenn. I don't think he will return.

Two other strong contenders are Kazador and Kragg the Grim.

Thorgrim might return as a young prince before he succeeded his father as high king.

As for Malakai and Bugman: do we have any proof of how old they are? While we have seen the Bugman cart, the brewery could at this time still be lead by his father.
As for Malakai: the presence of his Goblin Hewer suggests he was already alive and inventing at this time, though I don't think they'll make him a separate special character. I don't believe they'll make both special characters slayers.

Wasn't the goblin hewer meant to have been invented around the time of the Storm of Chaos campaign?

I'm very glad to see these lovely Dwarves. It's just a shame I didn't like these newer minis. The previous edition Dwarf warriors were excellent.

I believe that in the Storm of Chaos book it mentions it as his 'latest invention'. So it is i bit weird to see it there two centuries earlier. I don't think we have any clue as to how old Makaisson is, right? I don't seem to remember reading anything about it in the Gotrek and Felix books either.

Why do the slayers all have Orange hair, but their normal color beard? That looks really weird.

This would be a good time to hunt down the old plastic Dwarf Battalion sets, given they came with a Canon.
Is there any good sets (at a acceptable price) on eBay? I might go hunting!

I think the time to go hunting was when the force books went on sale - i'd imagine any army that doesn't have current GW for sale models has likely been stripped since GW put the army lists and photos of at least one whole army force into the book.

You might get more luck on FB as a LOT of trading has shifted there as ebay became more loaded with fees and as forums have dwindled in population numbers.

By all means go hunting, but I wouldn't expect deals. Right now with the army just announced and zero models (likely for a few months) its likely stock will go down and prices will rise for a while as everyone does what you're doing.

After the army goes on sale some items might go up, a fwe might go down and the market will have a diminished supply for a while.

Well! That would totally destroy my feeling of realism!

(I think making TOW a prequel was a big mistake for a lot of reasons, stuff like this is one of them)

But history is full of things being invented and reinvented, discovered and rediscovered, look at Korean Turtle Ships and American Ironclads. Just think of it as the Goblin Hewer Mk I.

Well it depends how they're going to deal with Malakai Makaison, the dwarf slayer engineer that invented the hewer and is in fact one of the crew models (seen in the video they released).

Either he's older than we think, or they're genericising his model to a normal slayer...

Like I said a prequel using existing models is always going to be troublesome. When Empire comes around I am sure they will include the house-sized griffin model (one of my favorites) despite the fact that the rider is Karl Franz.

Meh, he has an identical great-great grandfather. Bad genetics but it's an established fictional cliche.

The rider doesn't have have the be Franz though. It's got generic options and the Wizard options as well.
