Well! That would totally destroy my feeling of realism!

(I think making TOW a prequel was a big mistake for a lot of reasons, stuff like this is one of them)

But history is full of things being invented and reinvented, discovered and rediscovered, look at Korean Turtle Ships and American Ironclads. Just think of it as the Goblin Hewer Mk I.

I meant as in the person above was wondering how old Malakai was, which doesn't really matter if the goblin hewer was new at the time of WFB anyway.

There's zero stopping GW saying actually Malakai made this in his inventing shed for chopping potatoes back in aught-six and then realised it's great for hewing Goblins after they ambushed him mid-stew.

And what exactly counts as "new" for a dwarf anyways? Within the last century?

generally within a 1000 years, like Black Powder is still something new the traditional dwarfs don't like

but doesn't really matter anyway as GW is changing the background to fit the new game already, so in best case they won't mention it at all and in the worst case it was "new" for this Storm of Chaos and not the next one

Would give oddity having build not mentioned anywhere without rules though.

Has model no rules would be funny twist.

Don't forget the Dwarves, ever since the War of the Beard, basically suppressed a lot of their own inventions. Even things like the huge Airship in Gotrek and Felix stories is something the Dwarves had before, but got taken away. So the idea that there are "new" things in the old setting makes some sense.

It could be a relic of the War of the Beard that just escaped being dismantled; or its been invented several times and forgotten over hundreds of years only to be re-invented later.

Much in the same way in the modern world that we lost things like Roman Cement and had to re-invent it.

As for the characters I figure some named will just go unnamed as generic ones .

Just looking at the wiki, it can still work. A replica was unknowingly used for a long time before it was properly found. Even Franz originally used the replica.

Didn't bother them (gw) the other away around. They've been selling the same kit for AoS sigmar for a long time, though I guess it was easy to palm it off as a 'future' general cosplaying as Franz though.

The real issue will be the empire models covered in Karl Franzs name or initials

Sorry. My bad. Should have added quote. It was in related to emperor. Idea of having 1 build in kit not used and just the alternatives was what i was commented.

You could, back in the day - it was 'Empire only' but anyone could use it. Karl-Franz's restriction was that he couldn't have anything else in one of his card slots! You could give Runefangs to wizards and all sorts of other nonsense.

Its a hammer shaped like the famous hammer of the legendary founder of the Empire. Like nobody has ever attempted to copy legendary weaponry in a fictional setting before, let alone Warhammer.

Also, any random general could have taken it back when Franz was a character option in WHFB and the model was usable in AoS. I don't get the issue here.

You can build the kit with a sword instead of the hammer.

But why, pray tell, would they have to bring that griffon back? That one could easily stay in AOS. By now i think it a least as likely that they'll bring back the old elector count on griffon that came out at the same time as the orc warboss on wyvern.

Because it's an Empire model and doesn't fit with how GW redesigned the AoS Freeguild models.

If you have the rules you can also see there are two types of Griffon to represent the smaller older style or the larger newer style. The higher-ranking leader units can take the Big Boy while lower-ranking leaders can take a small one.

LOLno, this is pretty much the entirety of primaris range. We have Mk X Tacitus power first/weapons/guns/upgrades from close to a dozen of kits and chapter sprues, but the only one who can take them is the Intercessor sergeant. Want to give them to say hellblasters or flamer squad? Hell, your Chapter Master who apparently was kicked out of Intercessor only club? Ha. Nope.avi. And it's like this across every primaris group. You want to give your gravis troops or melta dudes sarge spare power fist from aggressor/terminator/upgrade sprue? Claws/power weapons on phobos outside of one model? Go frak yourself, then the rules would actually make sense (especially in universe) and GW might have sold a bit more sprues

And then there is half of Deathwatch range and like 6+ named characters having models, but none of them having any rules, best you can do is using them as generic HQ model (but then half of them have illegal loadout so frak you too)

Not having rules support for conversions (taking an arm from one kit to put on another) isn't the same as a model not having rules. But you already knew that.

On the other hand, if you're wanting to use them as Mercs, and nothing else from the Dwarf Journal, the rules in the box make perfect sense.

Maybe we'll get a "Mercenaries of the Old World" Journal down the line that's a compilation of any such units?

Yeah maybe - having rules in less places is better than all over the place, especially since the Journals are very small and quite light in content already

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Skipping on the dwarves, they are made way too big and have 0 character.
This is what used to have character, actual dwarf looking fat little men composed out of 99% beard and 1% body with an axe, cutlass or pistol attached..
https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:720/format:webp/1*Hhq2V1bix_IZCWn-kjyuFw.jpeg
(What is it with designers these days trying so hard to make everything look like hyper realism..)

I really hope this isn't a precursor to how the chaos-dwarves will look because then I'll skip on those too. :/
Maybe I'll end up playing beastmen or something.. sigh..

Very strange pre-order for the Orcs & Goblins today.

Heroes but no troops for some of the goblin choices.

Could only order single items of each type in a order, not sure if that means they will cancel multiple orders (meaning you couldn't actually order a units worth of Big 'uns in one go. Probably so it forced you to buy something extra to hit the free postage over multiple orders, and because they can't maintain stock levels)

Some of the advertised units never even made it to the pre-order.

Both my 'local' stores didn't receive most of the old world stock other than basic orcs & the dice sets. One left a note of the page which seemed rather sarcastic which suggests GW purposely pulled the basic items last minute from their order.

Thankfully I'm mostly just picking things up as a 'It would be nice to have some fresh kits to work with', so anything that doesn't make it in my orders isn't going to ruin my painting plans for the summer, it would just be nice to paint some of the old kits from fresh. They were not as expensive as I was expecting tbh though I held back on the forgeworld kits as I'm probably going to go a bit mad on the MTO trolls as the forgeworld kits will be around a lot longer.

I still think they would given a better experience to players had they started out with a release schedule with a few battalions & terrain, and then moved on to adding MTOs and other units as time goes by, as they clearly can't handle releasing so many units at once every couple of months.

Making them look like normal humans isn't realistic?
