So they want to secede, eh?  I always wondered about people like that.  Sure, it sounds terrific to leave the US and all its dumb laws behind, but I'm wondering if they ever considered all the good stuff that we have here.

It's almost worth letting them do it simply to watch them squirm.

Thoughts?

I would rather a completely worthless state like Vermont or Mississippi leave. I can't think of anything worthwhile in either of those states.

I love this quote:

The U.S. Constitution does not explicitly prohibit secession, but few people think it is politically viable.

Thats correct. Its the troops, tanks, planes, ships, and nukes that prohibit secession. Didn't we have this movie of the week already?

On the positive can I start calling Yankees Johnnie Reb now?

Did't the union go to war the last time states tried to seceed?

We stopped briefly in Vermont on our US trip in August and I could definitely live there (the country areas near the Canadaland border) but the same could be said of most of New England for me.

I'm not sure the 6 people between those two organizations have enough clout to get away with secession.

Yes indeedy. Some call it the Civil War, or by its more proper name The War of Northern Aggression.

Bloodiest little conflict in the history of the Americas, outside of the timeless Pepsi-Coke wars of the late 20th century.

JFrazell, you live in the only state in the nation that's legally allowed to secede.  It's part of your constitution!

This message is brought to you by the San Antonio North East Independent School District.

Yes indeed. Again, its the legions that make the law legal, and the guys in blue had bigger legions.

If the people want to secede that?s fine. Kick them out for being illegal aliens.

What's the line?

In my experience, God tends to side with the heavy battalions?

Something like that.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I imagine it would make government mighty awkward for the next year if the state the President hails from seceded.

It would make C-span into a absolute riot though.

Ah you mean the battle the Yankees lost so badly they had to re-fight and lose it again?

Can you imagine Grant, Sherman, Lee, and Longstreet on the same side? No wonder the Mexicans were creamed.

I have long thought that Texas should secede. it is not only enormous enough to sustain itself, but it is its own state of mind. I lived there for 8 years, and ...its a place you love to hate, or hate to love.

Other states such as alaska, hawaii, vermont...if they decided to secede, they would be committing governmental suicide. They just arent autonomous enough to sustain themselves as texas could.

If Texas were to secede, I hope it happens one of two ways.

1) All the inbred move there so that they can stop bellowing about how "The south will rise again". As before, its own state of mind.

2) The intelligent there kick out the inbred to trains that ship them all to 'Ssippi.

Either is fine with me. I like Texas. I'd hate to see it become any baser than it already is in places, but then again, I would rather see them walled off where they can inbreed comfortably, instead of spreading that plague around the rest of the world.

Texas has no need to secede. We've decided to split up runningthe US between ourselves, Ohio (Clintons) , and New York. California would run the nation but they get up too late in the day.

I'd like to see Vermont secede. Just so I could rightfully call them rebels and seize  their trees. Isn't maple syrup made there? Seize that too.

Texas is a damn wierd place I spent a couple of weeks there a few years back and:

Got asked 'do you speak English' by a checkout girl - Then tried to explain that I AM English!
Got stopped by the cops because I decided to walk from the hotel to some shops - I did wonder at the time why there where no pavements.
Couldn't find anywhere where you could buy a beer
but got taken to 3 strip clubs in two nights
Went to a baseball game and felt like I was taking a statistics exam
Saw some people spray painting their grass green - how crazy is that?

Chicago at least seemed a little more normal - The missus reckoned that it was because Chicago is much closer to Canada and the positve influence rubs off.....

Drink is the curse of the land. It makes you fight with your neighbor. It makes you shoot at your landlord, and it makes you miss him.

And cars and military "stuff."

And trailer parks although I think Oklahoma and and the West may be catching up in that regards. In fact, pretty soon we may have a TRAILER PARK GAP MR. PRESIDENT!

It's amazing how an economy based around forced agricultural labor and weak mint flavored alcohol was beaten by a civilized and industrialized country.
