Also a quick question on my choice of which list to use. I really like the look of the Cromwell over the Sherman but I want my first force to be a fairly well-rounded force. Which would be a better force for a starter, this one or a similar one using the Armoured Squadron from the Villers Bocage book? Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Cromwells are fast. This gives them an advantage over Shermans.

Firefly tanks are really needed in late war, the Germans can and will rip you a new one if you don't have some imo.

Either is a decent starter force.

I'm still considering whether or not to use any of the options they've presented for the British 11th Armoured Division.

Well, it looks fine to me.

What options for 11th armoured were you considering?

I would be more likely to go with Cromwells, but that's just personal preference and as long as you have Fireflies, you're pretty much covering your bases. Including infantry is a great idea, and the artillery should help too. You've also got recon, so pretty much all your bases are covered, except anti-aircraft (which isn't always an issue). This list looks pretty solid to me.

Well, I'm committed to the Shermans since I picked up a box of them at Yotta a couple of weeks ago And I have decided to use the optional 11th AD rules after all. It will allow me to field a 1,500 point force sooner, even if it is somewhat smaller.

11th Armoured Division 'The Black Bulls'

Company HQ @ 255 Pts
2 Sherman V
1 Crusader AA

Armoured Platoon @ 375 Pts
3 Sherman V
1 Firefly VC w/ 0.5" AA MG

Recce Patrol @ 155 Pts
3 Stuart V w/ 0.5" AA MG

1 HQ Troop
1 Staff team
1 Jeep
1 Sherman OP
4 Sexton

Motor Platoon @ 120 Pts

1 Light mortar team
1 M5 half-track
3 Motor Squad
3 M5 half-track

Total List Cost: 1,495 pts.

I can always use this army as a base for either the 7th AD from Villers Bocage or 2nd Welsh Guards (Armoured Recce Squadron from Festung Europa). Most likely what I'll do is start on a MW British Light Armoured Squadron that I've drawn up a list for (12 Crusaders, 3 Grants, 6 trucked Motor Platoons and a Hurricane flight).

Just a heads up, I think a Late War 600 point tournament is in the works at Yotta. No date set as of yet though.

Yep. I lurk on Yotta's boards, but I won't be ready for the tourney.
