Sidenote: i do recall reading that he was having problems with insomnia due to the stress of The Dark Knight. I hope this doesnt effect its release...

I had heard that he had been seen looking like a homeless person, and I know he had been dressing really, really, really strangely. He had also just gotten divorced from his wife, and in all his recent interviews you can tell he seem fidgety to the point of being incredibly uncomfortable. He was up for playing Chigurh in No Country but had chosen not to take some "time off."

Of course this could all be crap to. We'll know what the coroner says soon enough. It sounds like people noticed he was depressed but no one did anything if they noticed all these behavioral changes.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Not fair mate.
I know you must see a lot of bad things in your line of work, but you cannot tar everybody with the same brush. Everybody makes mistakes, it just so happens he made a fatal one. I once overdosed on 'Phenergan' tablets when I was 14(Missed a couple of days, heard a rumour from some friends that if you didn't take a full course of Anti-Bio's they won't work properly in your system again. I promptly went home and took 9 tablets, which put me in a coma for 2 days.)So everybody can make mistakes, let's wait to hear some facts.

RIP Heath Ledger.

I got no sympathy for anyone cowardly enough to kill themselves...most especially when they have so much that so many dream of. Everyone has pressures, just different. To kill yourself when you've been blessed with a little girl is pretty despicable, cowardly, and selfish.

If it was indeed an accident, thats a different matter, and this point though from what we've seen in the media its looking more and more like the typical hollywood suicide. We'll see as more info is released. If its indeed an accidental overdose then its most tragic.

Again speculation to what happened in this case, but there is such a thing as depression dude. Im not talking about oh hey my dog died im sad, but the actual illness that can effect people pretty severely. You have the right to your opinion but to get on your soapbox and talk like that in a thread with RIP in the title is pretty tasteless.

They said he had pneumonia and took sleeping pills. For anyone who has had pneumonia before, sometimes you wake up choking on your own phlegm. If the sleeping pills prevented him from waking up to keep from choking, it could just be a case of poor judgement or knowledge. In that case I wish him well.

I havent made any speculations. All I've said is that if it was actually a suicide I'm not sympathetic...thats all. I'm not up here pointing fingers or name calling so ease off with your lynching.

That being said, its looking less and less like a suicide actually. Ledger was found face down at the foot of his bed. (a suicide would most likely be laying down in bed comfortably) He also had a later appointment with a massage therapist or something.

I'm betting we find out something like a combination of two or more things that he consumed reacted badly. combo of drugs or drugs and alchohol or some such. If that is indeed the case its truly tragic.

Its now said he had pneumonia and prescription drugs.

It is not believed to be a suicide.

Pneumonia can knock you around alot and buggers up the body's metabolism. Add to that a sleeping tablet that Australian doctors are avoiding like the plague due to side effects and its understandable that an OD could occur (unintentional).

We’ve had a couple of cases of pneumonia in my office this winter (we’re also in the Northeast US), including one in a fairly healthy woman in her early 30s. I don’t recall it being as prevalent in past years, though my memory is far from statistical evidence of a trend.

You know having things and money have nothing to do with happiness. Big Screen TV does not equal happy life. I know I knkow, most people are trained to think that the accumulation of material goods and monstrous checking account is the goal of life, but the reality of things are different. I always annoys me when I hear. Like the mind just can't comprehend being sad if you have material wealth.

So you find suicide an acceptable solution for being sad/depressed? Is that what you're saying?

I keep having people quoting me chastising my lack of sympathy for a possible suicide. Apparently suicide is acceptable so long as you're sad enough, regardless of how many family members you hurt. The real victims here now are Ledgers family and that little girl. If it was a suicide...GUESS WHAT...he isnt hurting anymore, he isnt the victim, the survivors are. With suicide, one solves all his/her own problems at the cost of the people around them, selfish, cowardly, and without concern for those who love you.

Dont lecture me on sadness/depression. I have an uncle that blew himself away and experienced a senseless ending of the life of a familymember firsthand. Its stupid, plain and simple regardless of the level of pain or depression.

Once again, this is all beside the point since its getting more and more doubtful that Ledger actually killed himself on purpose. I do indeed feel for the guy if pneumonia was the real culprit here as it seems as we follow the news stories. Its a definate shame for an actor which was so good in so many movies that brought us entertainment....except for the gay cowboy one.

Did you actually read what I wrote, or what you wrote for that matter? It wasn't about acceptable suicide, it was about the role of ones tax bracket in relation to suicide and/or depression. You are the one that stated that it was stupid "especially when they have so much that so many dream of" and all I did was refute that having "what so many dream of" has nothing to do with it. It is the same as being alone in a crowded room.

Also, this isn't a lecture, this is a message board. You don't want to see messages, you are probably in the wrong place; people will post responses sometimes to the things you write. Just because your silly Uncle took the speed train to the hereafter doesn't mean you have any expertise on the subject either. The only thing it means is that you know what it is like to be you and have your uncle do that. You don't have a monopoly on sorrow and tragedy by a long shot.

I think it was Albert Camus that theorized that it was in fact the only really important philosophical question was whether or not to commit suicide.

Haven't heard that but the little clip here reveals more about exactly how charming this bunch of people are.

I saw the original programme-- there's been a couple of follow up type affairs too-- and was kind of dumbfounded. Never knew I was a dyke... ?

I mean you have all those guns sitting around in your houses and not one septic has ...... ahh.. you see where I'm going.

You do realise people like this is how most of Europe sees America anyway right ?

NOt me, obviously, I read dakka so I know that a lot of them are much more messed up than that.

I'm not sure. They are the ones that picket at soldiers funerals for sure becuase god hates fags he kills Iraqis and Coalition soldiers. The straight ones.

Brokeback Mountain was a good movie, but it certainly wasn't for everyone, though mostly because of its pace. Moves at Ang Lee's typical glacier like momentum.
