My sister and I are in a bit of a pickle, we have no idea what to get our mother for mother's day. Maybe I could get some ideas off you more prepared people. So what did you get your mother this mother's day or a previous one, I just need some suggestions.

I sent her a card. Hopefully she'll get it today or monday. I'll also give her a call tomorrow morning and listen to her talk about her cats for a good 20 minutes. Don't worry, I enjoy talking to her about this.

Personally I don’t see the point of giving her a card. If she’s already given birth to you why not just ignore her and keep the money for yourself? Makes you have more money am I correct?

Seriously, it’s hard to go wrong with a card and flowers. It’s generic, but you can get them at your local supermarket or pharmacy on a moment’s notice, and they’re pretty much always appreciated.

If you have time, you can really impress your mom by going out and getting something related to her interests. Something you know she’ll enjoy. This is always the best gift.

For example, my standby is usually to go to the bookstore and look for new releases by my mother’s favorite authors. She reads a LOT, and I have a list of about a half dozen writers she really likes. Three times a year (Mother’s Day, her birthday, and Yule) I go to the bookstore and go right down the list. I usually only get her one or two for mother’s day, plus a card, plus my siblings and I take her out to dinner. Since I got married my wife usually insists that we get her flowers too.

This year we’re actually all (myself, my brother, my sister, and my wife) pooling to buy my mother Rush tickets. Rush is one of her favorite bands, a few years ago we got a big civic center/concert auditorium here in Manchester (where we all live), and Rush is coming for the first time. It’s $150 for two tickets (two so she can bring a friend), but we’re all working adults so that’s not too much.

One year when I was still living at home we had recently gotten the old above-ground swimming pool taken out, and my mom wanted to put a flower garden in the side yard in its place. I was broke but I volunteered my labor. Mom paid for it, but I drove out to Wal-Mart and picked up 50 bags of topsoil. I hauled them back to the house and spread them over the ground. I also took some of the old stones from the patio next to the pool and arranged them as a path through the middle. I did all the heavy lifting/sweaty labor so she could spread wildflower seeds at her leisure and have the garden she wanted.

Lol, you got me there

I like that. My mother loves coffee, always talking about it. Different kinds, different places. Maybe I could get her a nice mug that keeps heat well and a gift card so she could get some coffee with it.
