I'm considering getting a Gorkanaut/Morkanaut for tabletop, but I'm curious how effective (or as close to being effective) on the battlefield are they in the actual lore? Can they go head to head against Imperial Knights or are they basically more suited for smaller targets? I know with Orks there's always kinks and well, complications. But I'm curious how effecting these big lugs are in the fluff against other armies?

Pretty tough, while you could say that its some heavyu handed advertisment, they wreak great damages to the imperial forces on alaric, actualy being more or less intended to be and ork knight-class walker.

Yeah, all the lore I have ever read has them as Knight equivalents, although their rules have frequently been much worse than Knights.

As far as I can tell, Orkanauts are the replacement of the old Stompa role from the Epic games, when Stompas were knight equivalents. When they made the plastic Stompa, it got a glow-up to the scout-titan weight class. I think the current stompa is broadly equivalent to the Epic mek stompa (although default stompas don't have power fields and only mek stompas do). Epic mek stompas were not just stompas with power fields though, they were bigger with better weapons. Now both types of stompa have the same bulk and power level of weaponry, with power fields being the chief difference.

Hence Orkanauts filling the old knight-level niche.

In 7th they were totally subpar in their category, although half the price of a knight, I felt the absence of super heavy unit type, Initiative 2, and randomness of the main gun, made it really meh. But good grace is it a cool unit. I actually bought one second hand for my brother

I agree with the others, its supposed to be the Orks Knight, but comes across as more like a really big dreadnought.

It's a really cool kit to put together and paint, you should get one!

I agree with the opinion that it is a large/heavy dreadnaut category. While mine have occasionally got into hand-to-hand and wreaked havoc, they generally are more of a damage magnets when I play them.

Occasional good humorous fun, though!

Last GT I played, had a game v demons and Belakor charged a Gorkanaut, who punched him into space (zero damage to 'naut, 24 to Ballsakor)

There's a story called 'Iron Devil' where a guard force needs to take down a Morkanaut. I haven't read it myself yet, but it looks to be a short story so maybe I'll change that. I will report back with answers.
