I don't see them on the GW site, thought it could be a site issue, or maybe they were renamed Explorator Aestares or something.

You mean the ones from KT Salvation? You can get them on ebay as people are parting them out. It'll be some time before the scouts will be available separately from GW.

Ah they're locked in a sold-out Kill Team box, no wonder I can't find them.

Heaven forbid GW fans be able to find and buy GW products.

I got the Scorpions from a box splitter on ebay for super cheap. Scouts should also be available for cheaper than they will be at retail later.

All I had to do to get mine was tell my store to hold a box and show up to get it. Didn't need to pre-order or prepay.

Not everyone lives within range of a GW store or even an FLGS, so it might not be as easy elsewhere, but it was really easy for me.

You also have to keep up with the GW news on a regular basis to ensure you don't miss out which is one of the reasons for doing it.

The consumer friendly thing would be for once something is released it is available until the kit is discontinued.

The new scouts are only for Primaris Marines players, as they are sadly too upscaled to look reasonable next to modern firstborn marines such as the HH 2.0 plastics.

I am in the process of collecting all the vintage metal Scout sculpts because of this. Dont have many models left to collect, thankfully. I dont like the idea of having to use metal models in 2024, but the old Scout plastics look much worse than the old metals.

I suppose a good alternative would be to find a good 3D print STL proxy of the new KT Salvation Scouts and scale them down a notch to match modern Firstborn.. But I have no 3D printer nor any means to easily source prints

(added a pict for clarification)

Yeah, I was interested in the new scouts until I saw that size comparison.

The old metal scouts really were the peak minis of all the iterations.

I got the KT box but have not built the new ones yet. The scale creep will probably bug me a little, but if I want to do a mixed/firstborn list, I’ve still got my old guys.

I'm OK with Scouts being Same Size. IIRC Scouts are Space Marines just missing the Black Carapace which doesn't make Space Marines taller.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

To add to this, HH scouts would be space marines full stop. As in they have the carapace at all, they’re just currently used in a scouting role and armor rather than as line infantry.

It’s your lucky day. The new Scouts go on preorder next Saturday.

Even so, the scales dont add up. Unhekmeted head as large as a helmeted one, bare hands as large as power armour gloved ones etc

I wish I could get into the mindset where the scale diff wouldnt irk me, but just cannot

Yeah, but with every space marine player needing 15, not everyone is going to get his.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

So armour is paper thin?

And head shrinks as you put helmet in?

Then again new scouts are primaris marines so supposed to be head taller than HH marines. So makes sense they aren't usable as hh scouts

Paper thin armor and heads the same size as helmets have been a core part of GW’s designs from the start.

Not sure it will be any worse here on the scouts.

Scale creep is often blown out of proportion anyway (heh). When you have models right next to each other you can tell, but at tabletop distances it’s a lot less of an issue.

My armies spend most of their time ranked up on my shelf, and there are some pretty dramatic changes over the years, so I notice it a bit more then most.

'It has always been bad so it's ok that it hasn't improved in three decades' isn't a good argument.

True, but it’s also kinda the nature of the beast. Minis are not 100% realistic. Exaggerations so you can see details at table top distance happen.

And using an argument against these particular models that can also be held against pretty much everything else is also not a strong argument

Look, I'm not telling anyone else what to do or buy with their hard earned monies. Just for me personally, I am disappointed by the new scouts. In just a few years, I have re-bought my entire Space Marine army, which now consists of HH 2.0 firstborn plastic marines, HH 2.0 plastic vehicles and 40K 10th edition Indomitus Terminators. The end result looks glorious and everything in the army is nicely in scale with each other. The only thing missing were new scout models, and I very much hoped these new ones would fit the bill. But alas, it was not meant to be

Those old scouts look so off when put next to the new models. So short and squished.

To be fair, the metal one on the left is not straight on his base, he’s leaning forward a bit. Perspective not doing him any favors.

But yes, good proportions on the new guy.

Very sad.. great proportions on the new ones. Wish I could just get those 80% their size..

I wonder if Firstborn scouts get bullied in the Fortress Monastery.

I know metal scouts don’t take flack from anyone…

In universe, there is only a short window from when a chapter adopts the new geneseed and goes primaris that there would still be scouts without the additional bits. In theory existing firstborn scouts would have seniority over new, bigger primaris-path scouts, but probably not enough to keep their lunch money. At least for newer initiates. The ones already progressing through the 10th company might have enough years and experience to school the big youngsters.

Obviously chapters will vary.

Not in my army, because every model is from the pre-8th-inflation era. Consistent scaling for troops and vehicles

The metal scouts look great, Imo. I've got a side project of doing some matching 3d sculpts so I can print out more poses in the classic style.
