In the new CSM Codex there is an Enhancement called Dread Reaver which says :

"Heretic Astartes model only. Each time the bearer makes a melee attack, if the bearer is wholly within 12" of your opponents deployment zone, you can re-roll the Hit Roll and you can re-roll the Wound Roll."

I know when you are wholly within a Ruin, its shown in the Rules Commentary. But when are you wholly within 12" of the opponents deployment zone ? The Dawn of War Deployment Zone is only 10" wide. Does this mean you can never be wholly within 12" ? There are 3 or 4 Sides of a Deployment Zone, from which Side are you measuring the 12" ? Or is it from all Sides ?

It is when you are wholly within a range of 12" of your opponents deployment zone. Not wholly within a deployment zone of 12".

The Dawn of War Deployment Zone is 10"x60" for both Players. It has four Sides. From which Side do you measure the 12" ? You can't be wholly within 12" from all Sides ?

It is wholly within 12" of any point of your opponents deployment zone.

If the Deployment Zone is 10" deep from the table edge, then if the bearer is wholly within 22" of the opponent's table edge, they get the bonus.

From the OUTside. It's not 12" into the deployment zone, it's within 12" OF the deployment zone.

Ok, thanks all. Its confusing me that wholly within a Ruin means you must be inside the Ruin, but wholly within 12" of Deployment Zone means it can be outside of the Deployment Zone.

That’s because one has a radius and the other doesn’t.

‘Wholly within a Ruin’ means you need to be in the Ruin.

‘Wholly within 12” of a Ruin’ means you can be outside the Ruin as long as you are within 12” of any of its edges.

‘Wholly within a deployment zone’ means you need to be in the deployment zone.

‘Wholly within 12” of a deployment zone’ means you can be outside the deployment zone as long as you are within 12” of any of it’s edges.

There’s no difference.
