Glow Up - Paint an updated sculpt of an older model (lots of choices there)-- bonus points if you paint the older one as well. Alternatively, start with a low level character, and convert or kitbash a more experienced version. Maybe something like an old Ral Partha three-stage character, of a Frostgrave wizard and apprentice, as they're basically the same in game. If you want to be more literal, something featuring OSL or other lighting effects. If you want to go meta, paint or re-paint something you have done previously, to show off how much you've improved as a hobbyist.

World of Tomorrow - Paint something technologically advanced compared to the level of its faction, peers or contemporaries. Those who embrace the cutting edge state of the art, and push it one step further. Mad scientists, cyberpunks, engineers, mecha. experimental test pilots, steampunk, alchemists. Will it explode? Is it heresy? You are in the right place!

Dress For Success - Models with extravagant, over-the-top, or just plain fabulous outfits and/or accoutrements. Break out the fancy hats with feathers, poofy sleeves, and ball gowns. Or blinged-out power armor. People should know at a glance you are a rising star, or have already archived the highest positions. Your entry should be dressed for victory in whatever field they are on, be it the battle field or in court.

Footslogger - Sometimes the best way to get somewhere is putting one foot in front of the other. No fancy bikes or tanks. No fancy horses or winged monsters. Just the poor infantry with a good pair of boots. Getting where you need to go and getting things done. Taking ground and holding it. These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do...

Poll will run for 2 days

It’s the one topic I wasn’t sure what I’d paint. But I like to follow a month with an opposite, so thought it would make a nice contrast for Nice Ride.

Probably scouts.

Voted glow up as a cop out because I am a bit drained (very busy past few days x_x) so my inspiration is poor.

I hope Footslogger doesn't win because I just bought a cool vehicle But if it does I still have French troops to make for my French sentinel from this month .

I voted Glow Up, but as always I'm sure I can find something for any of these themes. In fact, what I have in mind works for three of the four.

Now showing classic Eldar!

Painting total as of 11/10/2024: 90 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and a fours giants

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

I also voted Glow Up - I have a support squad of plasma guns to paint in super glowy tones.

For Glow Up I’m spoiled for choices. The easy pick would be to do some of the rescuplts from 10th in the primed pile. Scouts, terminators, gaunts. Or some Mk VI beakies, as I’ve got both some new HH ones and RTB01s.

World of Tomorrow I added to the poll with no idea what I’d do. Looking at the pile, probably those HH beakies, as they are geared with volkite.

Dress for success is a marine hero. Either the SS captain from indominus or one of the HH praetors.

Footslogger could be a lot of things. Probably marine scouts.

Question about the proof pic - I've got a mini that suits Glow Up to a tee, the mini itself is still in its wraithbone spray undies, but the base is painted (not fancily painted or anything, it's just drybrushed technical paint ground plus the obligatory skull, a bit of highlighting over its contrast paint bone, but so far as a basic base goes it's finished). Yea or nay on that? I'm not looking for a special exception - I've got a satisfactory backup for Glow Up (same mini as Footslogger, actually) - just curious where the line is.

Technically, the whole thing should be a blank slate.

Practically you are fine. We frequently get people asking if it’s OK, because they already have a layer on a gun or something. Which is generally fine. Now you’ve done more then just one extra color, but it’s on the base, not the mini. So I’ll cut you a little extra slack. And if it fits the comp theme to the tee, Rule of Cool comes into play.

In fairness, given that Glow-Up is likely going to win, that means Jedi/Sith with lightsabers for me, though their bases have also got a layer on.

Pity my old and new Belial models are much too far along to qualify for Glow Up. I do need to finish them one of these days. Maybe I could do some old and new Terminators or something.

For World of Tomorrow, I'll have to have a long think about it. If nothing else I could work on some Votann for the first time since shortly after they came out. They are pretty high-tech.

Dress for Success should be a gimmie, as I've got plenty of blingy DA characters I could work on, or some of the new Deathwing Knights, or just about anything Stormcast Eternals or Custodes (because gold).

Footslogger is another gimmie, I've got lots of qualifiers from several game systems. This is the one I voted for.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~500
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 37 | Current main painting project: Kruleboyz Spearhead

We should all vote for Dress for Success because that's the one for which I have no immediate idea.

Our beloved despot chooses one of them for the coming month and the other one is up the following month.

Which in conjunction with Mothsniper's comment makes me wonder if the now third place is the runner-up that gets a second chance in the next poll or if there is no runner-up.

I’ll choose one of them for the next comp as a tiebreaker, and the following free month we will skip the poll and the other one will be the topic. So both get their time in the sun, I’ll determine the order.

As July does not have a set topic (like March, October, and December) it will be then.

Normally the runner up topic gets forwarded to the poll next month for a second chance. I honestly don’t recall how we’ve dealt with that in the past with ties, probably will give the highest non-winner for another time. If there is a tie for second I’ll put the one not forwarded back on the list for a future month, but don’t like recycling two topics two months in a row.

Excellent.

And it inspired a theme you can add to your list. Fistful of Ninjas. Ninjas, spies, assassins and such. Doesn't have to be multiple models. They're ninjas. Like raptors, you wouldn't necessarily see all of them.

And that should be our two days.

So let’s do “Glow Up” for June, “Footslogger” for July, and “Dressed for Success” will get it’s second change in the poll for August.

That works nicely for me. Plasma guns for June, then I've got my nascent AoS all female warband to paint at least some members of in July.

Heh. Thanks guys.

Remember that while a benevolent despot, I’m also horribly corrupt. So keep those bribes flowing in!

I’m so spoiled for choice for Glow Up it’s crazy. Lot of decision paralysis going on. One thing about being older then dirt; almost everything is a modern version of a classic mini. Which I painted back in the day. Or more recently, depending. The pile of shame is deep, and I paint slow.

I bought a dungeons and dragons Beholder today, cause that monster has always been my favorite of all fantasy games.. Is that eligable or does it have to be 100% warhammer? Just asking btw, if its a nogo I'm fine with it.

Yup. There are no manufacturer restrictions. Anything that’s vaguely miniature related. Busts, scale models, toy repaints, home-sculpted stuff. Pretty much anything.

Beholders have come a long way. I’ve got a floating beachball one on the shelf. But they look mean these days…

If footslogger and glow-up have a tie, we could post our first troop model compared to our latest one. Maybe vote for most improved.
