If the PS3 is way too much, I think I'm going to get a PSP.
How do you like yours, if you have one?

I've had one since Christmas and have 10 games for it. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I love mine. The graphics and audio are incredible, the controls are ok (d-pad on older models is a *female dog*, annie nub can be a pain if you play for too long), the battery life is around 4 hours (not too bad if you keep an eye on it), but overall it's the best portable gaming you can have. Nintendo DS is a good system, no doubts there, but I think the PSP just sets the bar a lot higher for itself and is usually living up to it. There are a lot of decent and great games for it. The last few months have seen a perpetual stream of great games like Metal Gear Acid 2, Syphon Filter, Daxter, Tekken Dark Resurrection and a bunch of others. The next few months holds a loooot of excellent ones too, I'm really looking forward to them. I have no doubts that the system will have a lot of longevity to it. It also has a lot of really good compilations and remakes of older games (Megaman X and Powered Up, Capcom Collections, upcoming Ghosts and Goblins, Power Stone Collection, Gradius Collection) that really scratch an itch you can't find elsewhere apart from emulators. I'd say go out and pick one up, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, those PS turn based games are what I'm looking for, and the X-box doesn't do them very often or very well. Also, the RPGs have been rare and lacking on the Xbox.
I probably would have gotten my PSP by now if I weren't playing Warmachine lol.

Well, I'll grant you that the turn based games on X-box are thin... Shattered Union and Dai Sankura are the only two that come to mind ... but X-box lacking RPG's?!?! Are you mad man? KotOR I & II? Jade Empire? Morrowind? Fable? Oblivion? Mass Effect? Dude you MUST check out the Mass Effect video

Check Gamespot reviews. Check most recent RPG reviews and you'll find that the first 15 for the X-box go back to 2003. When you go to the PS2, you find that the most recent 15 reviews go back to Nov. 2005. Besides, I can play most of those Xbox ones on my PC.

Oh yeah?! Well if you check "GameRankings.com" (which agregates rankings of all magazines and websites into one composite score) and look at the top 20 ranked RPG's of all time: Xbox/360 has 4 titles PS2 has 2 titles I guess I'm a quality over quanity kind of guy.

All those games, save one, I have played or can play on my PC.
I just feel like my Xbox is redundant and wish my PS2 was working these past two years.
But maybe then I wouldn't have gotten so much work done. Who knows?

I want a PSP. What's good about it?
Russ' Responce:
OMG! The X-Box has cool RPGs! I want to have the X-Box's baby!!!!!!!!!
C'mon Russ. This is getting silly. Can you go one thread without gushing over the X-Box? I'm convinced your an MS Plant... even if this is your site.

HBMC, everyone who likes anything is a plant according to you. Not everyone is as cynical as you are. Some of us really do like stuff, which is why these companies are able to sell it.
I was just suprised by Malfred's comment on X-box RPG's being weak, which I think is one of its strongest genre's. Is the X-box strong on all genre's? Nope, as I pointed out, it is VERY week on turn based strategy.

The Xbox doesn't have any RPGs I would get an Xbox to play. I currently own the first KOTOR, Oblivion and Elder Scrolls 3 for the PC, so I have no clue why I bought the machine in the first place. I think I got sucked in by a silly fighter that came with the game and bored me about a week or two into actually having it and playing it.
I also need more Turn based games, and Metal Gear Acid seems like a good fix.
Now I need 200. Geez. No minis for a few months if I want that.

I personally own a PSP. I picked up a 1 GB memory stick for it and have cramed it full of MP3s and use it like a glorified ipod, so I don't have to buy one. I also own 4 games for it: Metal Gear Ac!d Metal Gear Ac!d 2 Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Rengoku Of those 4 the Metal Gears are GREAT games, Rengoku is a pretty good RPG/3rd person Shooter, and GiTS is an utter crap FPS.
Its also fun to surf the net when I'm in a wi-fi hot spot (although with the PSP's screen its hard to do it).

malfred-> Leaning towards PSPHow do you like yours, if you have one? It is superior. I traveled for business over half of this year so far and it has been a superb companion. Basically it encompasses an MP3 player, a video player, for UMD format AND MPEGs or DVDs you want to store (software is easy for the tech savy) and a game console. The wireless versus play is amazing, several of my friends and office mates have them now, and we can link up and play! Absolutely get one, they are great. malfred-> If the PS3 is way too much, I think I'm going to get a PSP. A moment, recognize that playing games and watching movies on a little 3 inch screen with headphones on is not as dramatic as hooking up to a TV and sound system at all. You'd have to be pretty involved in the content avaialable on the PSP to want to do that when at home, over a regular system (or a PC). I do not think a PSP is a good substitute for a home system of anykind, well, maybe for an atari or a mac... Also, a well equiped PSP is just as pricey as a XBOX360 or probably a PS3 eventually (I don;t knwo the price point). I spent over $500 on mine before games... Its really for those with means or the travel bound. If your planning on getting one as a cost savings over a home system, probably forget it. Some comments: UMD movies are as expensive as DVDs, and only playable on the PSP. I have a few including Final Fantasy Advent Children and Underworld 2, but ultimately, they are pretty limited use. (Foreign "use your imagination catagory" titles are great though!) Also they lack the menus and extras found on DVDs of the same price and everytime I buy one I feel cheated. UMDs really ought to have all the same features DVDs do to make them worth equivalent money, and they don't, no special features, no director commentary but most importantly, no menus or scene selection, things I use a lot on DVDs to watch my favorite secens over and over. Probably don't waste time on UMD movies, just get software and a memory stick and put yor DVD(s) into it. Battery Life is 4 hours (easily overcome by buying 2 battery packs, or a power extender, I have gotten over 8 hours out of a single battery pack with a battery life extender, mine clips on and makes the PSP into the elongated shape of the PS controller handgrip, its great!) On game titles, buy the capacom and midway compilations, those are the 2 titles that make the whole thing worth while, Imagine MK, MK2, MK3, STRIDER, STREET FIGHTER, and an entire host of other popular 80s/90s games, like 30 maybe, all together on 2 little UMDs, (Rampart, Rampage, Sinistar et. al.) superb! I also enjoyed Popolocrois, and Legion of Chaos as RPGS, I tried Ghost in the Shell and the Armored Core title as well, and they were good, not as good as the PS2 titles, but fun to play. (Customizing the Tachikomas in GitS was a blast!) Peripherals rock, buy a protective case! I have the little game stop zipper book, and it holds everything including the charger and does a great job of protecting the unit. Good luck!

So it seems you got the fabled PSP Malfred... how are you liking it? What games did you pick up? My friend bought one a while back and the best game seems to be GTA: Libery City Stories, but LocoRoco looks absolutely amazing and happy (almost seems like it should have been made by a certain other company... hmmmm ) and I have considered buying a PSP just for those two games.

I picked up Metal Gear Ac!d (nifty concept, aggravating to get used to) Exit (stunning art), and Valkyrie Profile Lenneth (The sidescrolling action is a bit tricky, but I love the combo RPG concept).
After two years, I think the library is nice enough that I don't have to buy just the latest games to be happy.
Stuff I'm interested in:
GTA Metal Gear Ac!d 2 Lumines Field Commander Katamari Kingdom of Paradise Worms LocoRoco
I hope they get to publish Disgaea on the PSP like they said they would.
I can borrow some games from my brother like Virtua Tennis Generation of Chaos Untold Legends Darkstalkers Armored Core Street Fighter
I wish they would port more of their ps2 titles over. I didn't want to hook up a system to the television as that sort of thing encourages more gameplay than I really need.
As far as games I've seen previewed, in case Disgaea never gets ported...
D&D Tactics Super Robot Wars Capcom Classics Reloaded (Knights of the Round!) Star Trek Tactical Assault
I have to say, the only thing that made the PSP NOT a must buy was the lack of RPGs. I think I realize now that I really like the tactical RPG or turn based games anyway.
I still have my PC and laptop for RPG play.

Valkyrie Profile looks like a nice buy, that is another one of those games I felt tempted to buy a PSP for. Except that for the price of the game you could buy a PS1 and the original PS1 game, but no matter.

I think the PS1 game is a rare item. You know, overpriced for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I'd hate to try to get it in mint or playable condition because of the artificial value attached to these things.
