In the intrests of 'equal time' I did finally find a game industry article that predicts Sony is doing the right thing:

lol, look what happens when microsoft is late with their cheque :p

In fairness i suspect the ps3 will eventually win out, here in england the number of chavs with too much (of other peoples) money onj their hands is pretty phoenominal and they all love sony because of the preponderance of racing games on the ps2, and its lower cost. theres nothing to say they won't stick with the brand

First off: "because of the preponderance of racing games on the ps2, and its lower cost" The PS3 is going to cost a lot more than any of the other consoles and as things are going it looks like the PS3 and 360 will have an equal number of racing titles, so I don't think this will really apply anymore.

Second, back the the article. Where do these groups come up with this stuff anyway? If one looks at any polls or surveys on gaming websites, the Wii is always a strong winner on what console people are most excited for and want to buy. Now of course someone out there will have a great example showing the complete opposite of this, and polls on gaming websites don't represent the overall consumer population. Either way though, I think that estimate of the Wii failing so bad is very uneducated and frankly I think the console rankings will be more like a tie between the Wii and 360 with the PS3 trailing behind.

I actually find the theory that all 3 will split the market between them, the way thigns are looking the wii panders to the "fun" crowd, the 360 to the online gaming fraternity and the ps3 to the rpg'ers and anyone that has a few k to spare

The Wii has a clear-cut market, and it's not me. Showing me goofy tweenage asian people whipping a controller around like schizophrenia patients in pristine white houses is not going to sell to me.

I'm trying to decide right now if I'm even going to get a new console, and if I do, I'm basically torn between the PS2 and the 360. Yes, the PS2. It's still got a huge library of games I haven't played, and it only costs $130.

You do realize the Wii's "clearcut market" is anyone who likes just having fun playing games? Or can games not be fun if they don't have HD graphics? Some people out there confuse me with their "the Wii is for little kids!" yet it is getting all sorts of games just as mature as the other consoles (Red Steel, LOZ, Splinter Cell, that Disaster game, and those are just to name a few).

(And btw if anyone disagrees with my above thing just write me off as a deranged rabid Nintendo fan, which I whole-heartedly agree with, except I think I have some rationality left in me so try to see my view)

I actually agree that the real race may end up being between the 360 and the Wii.  The 360 being the "HD technogeek online gaming machine" and the Wii being the "affordable, looks great on anything, fun new joystick, plays old school classics" machine.

I'm not even sure that the 360 and Wii will be directly competing, as they really target different markets.  They'll sort of be happily co-existing in game space.

The PS3's huge price point is going to be tough, unless they can REALLY show a clear advantage over the 360.  And besides the Blu-Ray advantage (which is, at best, debatable) they've really got noth'n.

SO far I have heard the blu-ray is really nothing to be particularly excited about, initial reports of the advantage of blu-ray movies and players so far have been bad. I haven't read much up on them, has anyone looked indepth at reviews so far or anything?

I don't know anyone who is planning on spending 600 dollars for a PS3, games like Gears of War and Halo 3 are just too attractive a prospect for someone choosing between the 360 and PS3.

They are? For some maybe, but not me. I don't know anyone who is even remotle interested in the 360, its the Wii or PS3 around here. Halo can go jump in a lake, does the world really need another FPS? I seem to remember Halo 2 being a bit of a dissapointment. And Gears is looking to just be another shooter, wait let me get all excited... ok glad thats over with.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Dude, 3 words: Chain Saw Bayonet!! It's also a bit more squad based than FPS's in the past.

Touche Jayden. Actually I don't really care much about the 360 vs PS3 as all that matters is the Wii, and you mentioned people liking the Wii so its all good

BioWare is making Mass Effect?! I didn't know that. If it doesn't come out for PC as well as X-Box, that could be a game that would get me to buy a system.
