I'll get his name when I go down to the station for a hard copy of the report. Once I do that I'll contact a lawyer and see what all I can do.

So you're saying the actually caught the guy? Ayah in that case taking him to small claims court would be perfect. You will need a copy of the police report and the videotape, if you can get it (I doubt you'll gte the video). Anything over that gets expensive.

They haven't really said anything about it. I don't even know if the GM knows yet.
In other somewhat related news the Albuquerque Journal (our newspaper) has printed an article stating New Mexico is the 3rd most dangerous state to live in. We're #2 for rape, #3 for burglary and #6 for assault. With monkeys like this guy all over the place it's no wonder.

random acts of violence. What fun
Actually, you would have to sue for damages (with your police report in hand) in order to get them to foot the bill on the tooth.
I do suggest going to the dentist though. The real worst case scenario is that it loses you that tooth, but it becomes infected after dying, and you lose one or two adjacent teeth also.

From what I've heard about Walmart (or at least that one
expose about business practices), they don't care what
happens OUTSIDE the store. They really only care about
the merch.
Maybe they've changed since then.

@Malfred - They have changed actually. Now they not only do not care about the employees, but they don't care much about the product either. They've come out and said they will not prosecute anyone who shoplifts anything worth $25 or less. That means you can literally walk into the store, grab a case or two of beer and then walk right back out without any fear of being stopped. We're not allowed to stop you. If an associate lays a hand on you to try and stop you, you can sue the person and the store (and most likely win). That's why they are trying to pass a bill here in Albuquerque stating that only liquor stores can sell alcohol and not grocery stores or convenient stores. Hopefully they pass it.

I wouls sugest that you make sure that management knows about what's hapened. Viloence in the woork place is a fairly serious thing and if you were assaulted on company time and company property, they have some responsibility to make sure you are taken care of. Not that they are likely to foot the bill or anything but you may be able to get them to help you out with a lawyer or something.

Well I talked with the GM last night and her reply was "I was angry they didn't call me". That's pretty much it. I talked with another cashier there who was assaulted by a customer one night and she told me that they took her into the back office almost daily and questioned her on the whole thing. She said they almost made it out to be her fault for antagonizing the customer when all she was doing was walking to her car around midnight. I doubt the company is going to do anything.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. The real problem is that no one takes responsibility for their own actions in this country. It's really started to weigh heavily on me lately.
That's one reason why I try to hold all you Dakka posters to a high standard.
Nice to know about the Wal-Mart policy, though. Time to start collecting Legos! (I am, of course, kidding).

StX, definitely talk to a lawyer. You don't want to lose any of your ability to hold the guy responsible if something is seriously wrong with your tooth.

Ask around, sometimes you can find personal injury guys that will give you free consultations to determine the validity of any potential claim
Edit: Also, if you have health insurance, you should check to see what it specifically covers. Why do the work yourself when you can take advantage of the litigation services you've already essentially paid for.

If it happened on the job, you can always claim Workman's Compensation to cover it. You might have a problem with that if you didn't file any paperwork on it... but you can always say you reported it to your boss & he didn't ask you to fill anything out (I believe you mentioned telling him. Right?).

Yeah, I let her know. She is the one that looked at the camera to see if they could make anything out on the vehicle or the guy.
Then I suggest going to her, reminding her of the incident, then reminding her that you didn't get to fill out any paperwork stating that you were (potentially) injured on the job.
You really need to see a dentist, man. Trust me on this. I know people who are sporting a lifetime of plastic teeth because they're entire youth (and early 20's) was spent street fighting & they never got their mouths properly looked at.
Almost all of their teeth had root damage, which caused them to begin to deteriorate & have to get pulled (some also fell apart because the teeth dehyrated from the root damage).
No amount of brushing will fix that.
Filling out the paperwork will ensure that they pay for it and not you.

Dental coverage is huge, too. Hurting teeth are a sonofagun, and damage can have consequences for the nerves in your jaw and can seriously impact your overall health and quality of life.

Not to crap more on your parade, but apparently they link other health problems to teeth now. I don't know the mechanism there, but yah, its a priority. Sorry to hear about the situation, I can't say Ive been in a situation like that, and it sounds like it really sucks.
