The Kodiak had some minor conversion work. You can do conversions for HG, with a saw, some green stuff and a little dedication anything is possible.

Here's what I've gotten done this morning. He still needs to have the metallics finished and be decaled. Maybe tonight after work.

America... Feth Yeah!

The only thing I don't like about the models themselves, not how you've done them but how they're made, is that the gun proportion is just silly compared to bulk of the mech.

I still enjoy your paint scheme and your army is coming together very well. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, these are the older minis and the weapons are kinda weedy. The new sculpts have beefier weapons; in fact I'm gonna swap out weapons later with the new better scaled ones.

Here is one of the newer Iggies from the DP9 site.

America... Feth Yeah!

They really like the missiles don't they?

I'm interested now, how do the flying jumps come into the gameplay? If I remember correctly, Heavy Gears could fly for short periods of time.

Sadly no flight capabilities in the tabletop game that I'm aware of.

Ack, the concept!

Give me a rocket launcher and 15 land mines... I'll make it fly!

I look forward to your next mech!

Great work! I love the scheme and the execution. So sorry about your cousin. It's so painful to lose close ones, particularly young ones

Back on the mnis and how to make them better - I think the bases are quite boring, and don't illustrate the size of these models inrelation to the miniature scale atall! So that would be an area to look into.

Hey Joe, it'sa me Jarreth =P

The mess-up order got here already so I can't change it, but they're sending the hardback copy for free apparently.

Are the GP squads the newer ones or no? I got one of South and North.

Thanks for the input and comments. What would you suggest doing with the bases?

I've still got plenty to do, so am open to suggestions. This is why I'm painting all of the older sculpts first.

Yes any minis you just received are the newer sculpts. I'm glad they are sending you a free hardback! Very cool!

Maybe make a tree coming up just above his waist? Maybe some all ruins up to his thigh?

You've got to keep in mind the Gears are only 15-20 feet tall. Unlike Battletech Mechs which are frakin' huge.

Again here's a crappy pic for reference.

Well than have one or two pushing a tree over and out of the way with his free hand, that should portray their size well enough for those they're around, and the ruins still works, maybe just a little taller than the infantry.

Or maybe a bunch of mini yard sticks taped together. Or one of thos roller coster signs that says "You Must Be This Tall" just below his knee. Of course those are both jokes.

Joe, you could try what I'm going to do--Use some of the woodland scenic trees cut up smaller to look like they're massive trees. I'll set up a pic later, I gotta find actual bases to use first =D

What do you suggest, other than the Hex bases.
Along with weapons load-outs for a Northern GP Squad =D

I'm using 1 1/4 inch steel washers for standard gears and 1 1/2 inch steel washers for large gears.

I'll get back to you on the GP weapons load-outs, but I'd prolly at least take a pair of MAC's.

I'm calling anything smaller than a Grizzly or Cobra a standard sized gear. So yes.

I really enjoy the color combo on the southern piece. Still nice and earthy, but different enough from the northern stuff to make it distinct.

I'd love to check this game out. If I only had a gaming group that played it...local retailer that had the rules, models, etc....money to drop on yet ANOTHER project....etc. etc. It's complicated >.>....in the end it just means it won't be any time soon!

Grey Death, I'll keep my eyes peeled for any Lone Star HG gamers on the HG forums.

The Iggy is done for now.

I really like the colors I chose for the southies.

I need to figure out what to do next.

Some of the khaki highlighting is a little chunky in a few places. I'd recommend if you're going to go 'extreme highlights' (relative term with your highlights of course!), you clean up some of the highlights. They'll look much sharper and give you a nice crisp look if the edges of your highlights are straighter.

Overall though, I'm really liking the southies. That color scheme is really really strong.

Thanks for the honest comments, I do appreciate the feedback.

I see what you are talking about I'll look at addressing it on the next mini. Part of the problem look back at the mini I seem to have blown off the final highlight on the Khaki. Grrr.

On the bright side he looks great at tabletop level.

I'd try some weathering on a test model, I think mud on his boots and maybe some blood splatter from stepping on an infantry. (I'm aware, only 15' tall, but it can still step on a crouching infantry guy). It could really add some dynamics. I love your edging, nice and it adds alot of depth.

Edit: Ha Ha! I found my Heavy Gear discs!
Edit Edit: Oh, I forgot the game INHALES PROFUSELY! Graphics and controls are terrible! Uggh, I cry in my sleep!

I actually like the bases the way they are. Most of the battles on Terra Nova are in the badlands anyway, so they fit very well.

How did you paint them? And what did you use to fill the washer holes?

Also, if you don't mind, how did you paint the Northern units?

Thanks Dave, I filled the washer holes with some really old hard to work with green stuff. The bases are painted Vallejo burnt umber, then drybrushed with US tan earth followed by a 2nd drybrush of ivory. The base rim is US tan earth.

The colors for the North are Vallejo model colors; green brown for the main color and WWII Russian uniform for the secondary colors. Both were lightened with Vallejo Iraqi sand for the highlights.

Those all look just as good as the ones on DP9's site, if not better even!

Also, condolences for the loss.

How long ago did you (two) get into HG? The model details on these guys look a bit cramped. I started (but also have found not enough interest) way back, durring 2E of 40k, when a standard jager stood a good 2x as tall as a marine. And things like Kodiaks, Grizzly's, and Mambas(of any type) were f'n huge! Then there were the striders. Never have found a Mammoth or Naga.

Thanks for the compliments.

I have a few of the old HO scale gears some of the detail was great and some not so much. I've been playing HG off and on since the 1st ed of the RPG. The gears I'm painting are first generation 1/144 scale so are a bit rough. The new 1/144 scale stuff is very true to the HG artwork and is really stunning. I'll start working on them soon, I just want to finish the older minis first or they'll never see paint again.

I'm currently block painting 2 more Iggies and a Black Mamba for a southern recon cadre. Pics to follow.
