Random question, for those who’ve painted their sets.

Do I need to do anything special, given the softer plastic?

Practice some kind of zen meditation for when you want to try and remove the mould lines

I just primed and painted as normal; I think you could get away without priming, but I like it for giving me a consistent base colour if nothing else.

Mine seem devoid of mould lines, so that’s something!

Definitely going to prime though, I cannot fathom painting without a primer.

I've found that after painting / priming, it's easier to see the (blech) mold lines. What I actually do is, since I paint at night, prime with colored primers (eg. Vallejo, Stynylrez). Prime, find another mold line I missed, repeat. Colored primers get you closer to basecoating than white and black primers, but lack zenithal priming. I paint to advanced tabletop, so don't miss zenithal priming...

I just washed them in warm water. The mold lines were noticible, but the figures are pretty nice for a boardgame, and the plastic took paint really well.

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

And that’s the Elf and Barbarian packs arrived.

Overall, I’m impressed with the product quality. Though, the cardboard bits for the Elf are about half the thickness of the other cardstock I have for the game.

Now to drum up some Nerds and get our spelunking on.

sorted the lines out on the heros, for the monsters I just left them. painted highlights and not just a wash will hide a great many sins

Thanks Dave - I may have gone overboard, but was birthday and Christmas money left over - I now have all the expansions including the 2 new ones. Just waiting for the Monk release and the Ogre Horde. There is a video on YouTube also for a AI DM that can also be used with homebrew adventures. I’ll see if I can find it

Looks like a bit of added content over the original, as well, as that just came with the Ogres and some tiles. So it now has more monsters (and goblins with boomerangs!) and what appears to be a male and female druid. The wolf is presumably for their animal form, and also doubles as the Good Boy companion from the Frozen Horror.

That looks like some really cool content! Also ranged models add a different feel to combat, for sure.

I plan on running some games for my kids using my original core set (and Kellers Keep), and if it takes, I may end up rebuying the new Core Set and some of the better expansions.

The ogres look cool! Are they sculpted to match the old art? They seem very specific.

The bow-armed guys I think are just meant to represent some monsters from the original - a number of orcs were described as being 'armed with crossbows' (usually behind a pit trap) but you just used the regular models for them. Now they have WYSIWYG!

Infiltrating an arena is new though, that wasn't part of the plot of the original expansion, so maybe we're having some altered Quest content?

I would also guess they've given the Ogres a regular profile to replace the weird wound tally version from the original.

The jungles of Delthrak got posted by a French retailer but has since been removed

Contents
16 Quests - choose your own path
39 cards
23 translucent figures
2 new heroes
Translucent dice

Box art is confirmed fake but they did the same for ATOH as a placeholder but they had the correct contents. Take with plenty of salt until confirmed

Aaaaand that’s Ogre Horde ordered, via InDemandToys.

I list the website as they have the stock on hand, and I’ve had a devil of a time finding it elsewhere that hasn’t sold out.

SUPER high demand for Ogre Horde. Keep checking Amazon, they remove the listing when it sells out and re-post it when stock comes in, it's been in and out a lot the last few days, sometimes multiple repostings per day. I finally caught a posting yesterday morning and have it coming in tonight, other people on Ye Olde Inn already have it

My copy of Ogre Horde has arrived! Briefly nosed into the box, and these are my immediate thoughts.

Card stock is pretty thin. Thick enough that with care it’ll be fine. But probably won’t stand up to an enthusiastic kid.

Models are really nice, and adding ranged attacks to the monsters ought to change things up a bit. However, the Ogre Champion seems to have really soft detail. Probably nothing a sharp paintjob can’t correct, but I am left wondering if perhaps mine is a slight miscast? It seems complete, but as if it missed maybe half a militmetre of plastic injected.

Ogres are huge. Easily larger in stature than the GW ones.
