I thought about it a lot. Whether to have a big two hander slung across his back or something lighter and more elegant and then it hit me. Maybe Lion El'Johnson's sword was really just a sword. Just a piece of sharp metal with a handle. No grand weapon of spectacular workmanship or quality, it was simply assumed to be since he had it around. Maybe to Johnson it represented more than a weapon, the very ideal of the Dark Angels... a physical manifestation of who he was as a primarch. So on my model the sword isn't a central focal point or a major facet of his overall regalia. It's simply lashed to his waist as one would wear a sword... plain and unassuming. After all this is Cypher we're talking about here. His reputation precedes him and he's only really known for carrying around one particular sword. He's not the sort of bombastic zealot to just go waving it around.... no. He's on a mission. A mission between him and Johnson that's been going on for the last 10,000 years. So the way I see it the sword is no more important as a weapon than a Fire Warrior's bonding knife. It's not the edge or the steel that matters, it's what it represents.

Nice idea. And given Johnson's skill with a blade, even a standard few feet of steel would be pretty deadly in his hands.

My thinking exactly.

Back on topic I just did a basecoat for the Sons of Medusa I put together yesterday/ midnight. Currently waiting for things to dry before I move on to more detailed stuff.

I have bright green paint dried onto my hands and stuck in my foot hair. >:L

I would, lol.

I thought they'd be much more difficult to put together. I threw mine together in about 45 minutes and was astonished as to how well everything fit together and interacted.

For a Space Marine or other human persona, that's a WONDERFUL idea to use. First saw it from Terry Pratchett, but I've since used the idea of the super-duper sword not appearing super duper at all, but instead just being 'bloody efficient at cutting things,' several times. I think it works very nicely with a primarch's weapon.

The conversion I was securing the part for, however, is Drazhar. And Eldar, dark or otherwise, don't go in for efficiency without ostentation.

Well, I have the majority of a Drazhar model. The only things I'm missing are his head and the blades of his swords. The blade I'm using are a matched pair of the barbed fantasy Dark Elf swords. I think for a head I'll use the spare head from the Archon blister.

Thanks to a fellow painter/modeler at the local GW store, I've got a new project. Basically, use an Assault Marine as the inspiration/basis to create a SM leaping into combat. Axe drawn back for a strike, mouth open as he bellows his war cry.

No progress on the Nephilim :( But there's this. My son did the pilot, I did the airbrushing. Still have the base, magnetise the main weapons, some gap filling, touchups and the port wing white lines in the recesses. Left the silver spray over black a little speckly, I like the effect.

I'm hoping to play Deadzone at my gaming club tonight, so I've been working on my Enforcers. They're not quite finished yet - still got some tidying and details to do.

Hopefully I'll get neater at painting them the more I try.

Try a bandage soaked in watered down PVA. I've had reasonable results with that.

As to stuff I'm working on; I've been working on a lot of American Revolution British. If I get the chance I need to undercoat a couple more line regiments to paint. I've still got a load to build as well.

Now don't crucify me but these where technically the other day, not today. I do feel like showing them off though.
A friend and I split a box of raptors and played around with them purely for the fun of painting.

I had a surprising amount of fun painting this guy considering I never had any intention of even building him until my friend suggested a raptor and a warp talon each rather than just 1.

I been meaning to try somethign like this out with a World Eater forever and finally got myself a bottle of Tamiya red the other day to actually do it . Not as happy with it as I am with the other but it felt good to finally try it and I was a fun technique to do.

And a few other shots of them:

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

For some entirely random reason that occurred to me mid-headache last night, I've started working on a simple and generic RPG ruleset, which I plan to adapt into variations for 40k, Star Wars, Warhammer, LOTR and whatever else comes to mind. So far, progress is going well, but as I have no experience with RPGs, I may be barking entirely up the wrong tree.

I'll be posting the initial rules for review in a few days with any luck, and may be looking for anyone willing to conduct a short session online here on Dakka to see how it goes.

For a pen and paper RPG I would focus in getting combat to be tight-- I read that as simple and quick. Skills don't have to be overly complicated, its probably easier to have categories instead of making people bother with 100 options... athletics instead of run/jump/climb/swim/etc. Feats/perks are fun but again you don't have to have 30 of them, just a couple per character to get some definition/variety.

At least those are things that would make a good set for me

Hoping to airbrush tonight, get some dwarfs and orx progressed.

Also need to clean up my Heresy Dr Who minis and get to work on my diorama...

This is the general route I'm taking. Where possible, I'm using a single dice roll to determine the success of an action, and there are only 6 stats excluding health. As a general rule, it's a simple case of:

'Player wants to do something -> GM tells them which stat to test and a score to beat (either set or rolled for depending on the action) -> Character tests stat -> passes or fails'

Nothing where you have to check tables and charts and consult the phases of the moon.

For combat, again it's a singe dice roll per player per round. Total Attack (damage or accuracy, sometimes Stealth) - Total Defence = damage caused.

Thanks for the tips.

Sounds interesting, but do you have some sort of mechanic for a "critical" success? Will weapons eventually have bonuses to damage?

For Criticals, I've got exploding 20s in currently, but I might make it a greater chance if that isn't cutting it, or give some weapons (Sniper Rifles, for instance) a better chance of Criticals.

All weapons will have a damage bonus, the base stat (usually Strength) represents the ability of just the guy using his fists, a weapon adds to that, better weapons obviously had more. So if I had a character with Strength 10 using a Longsword (Damage +12) then his total score will be 22+D20. Meanwhile, the same guy using an improvised weapon (Damage +4) would only have a score of 14+D20.

By Total Attack, I mean Stat+Weapon Bonus+D20, Total Defence is the same but with Armour Bonus instead of weapons.

Hope that clears it up. Like I say, this is my first attempt at doing anything like this, so if it sounds clunky/odd, please let me know.

Actually, the further explanation helps me quite a bit... Out of curiousity, have you figured out what your "heaviest" armor would be, and compared that DR to what potential damage could be done by high damage weapons?

Have you thought about any sort of Keyword "mechanic" ie. a Mace has the keyword "blunt" and plate armor has the keyword "slash"

Due to one having the "opposite keyword" there is a damage bonus(weapon) or damage penalty (armor) due to realistically, in this example at least, a blunt object doing more potential damage to plate than a slashing weapon?
