I post that just as I discover an old load of images that I totally forgot about. Again these may not fit your setting, but if then again the volume may turn up something if you're willing to search (and there's plenty to inspire other crap too). Ah, but this one's technically a mod over on the Fallout 3 Nexu, so the images are spread out into twenty one categorized compressed files (car ads, government posters, travel ads, movie posters, etc).

Airbrushes are terribly finicky tools. I think they can be considered robust when you're really competent at maintenance, but they're super easy to mess up.

Might be some maintenance videos on youtube that could help, I just get by with my sotar so I don't feel up to giving much in the way of advice myself.

You should try a rapidiograph if you want a finicky tool.

They are mechanical pens (not ball-point - they have a tube down which the ink flows from a reservoir, and a wire in the tube to control ink-flow. When the pen is put to a surface, the wire pushes into the reservoir, releasing ink to flow down to the surface).

A typical tip for a rapidiograph is about 0.13mm. They are GREAT for doing fine/small lettering or lining on miniatures. I have typically used a 0.06mm tip for doing runes on shields for my LotR stuff, but I have run into a LOT of problems in doing so lately (seems that my paints are too granular now, or something, and they keep clogging the pens).

And, unlike airbrushes, they are not used by many miniature painters, so it is hard to find trouble-shooting info or tutorials for a rapidiograph for miniature painting.

Technically, they require an ultrasonic cleaner to clean and clear the nibs after use... Which I do not own.

But like Airbrushes, they are fiddly, finicky, and require a lot of attention to keep them working properly.

DAMN I want some Star Blazers miniatures.

Hobby Link Japan had some 1/700 scale models from the most recent production of Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199, which was like if you mixed the 2003 production of Battlestar Galactica with the first season (Gammilas) of Star Blazers. My God! Was the cinematography and modeling beautiful.

They had taken interior cockpit shots from the JSDF aircraft as references for many of the space-fighter scenes.

They altered the space-combat to include the vectored thrust used by the Vipers and Cylons in BSG, combined with what looked to be very realistic modeling of the weapons systems used.

Their large-ship combat was done at shortened ranges, having consultants from the BSG production team, who dealt with the physics of why Space Combat is going to take place at roughly the same ranges as Naval Combat, using ships and weapons like those portrayed in BSG or Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199/Star Blazers (anything further than a few dozen miles away will be able to dodge most weapons).

But the series inspired me to want to get some miniatures to do Space Battles. But, sadly... I cannot yet invest in any (but they were some beautiful miniatures)

And... As for what I am doing:

I finally got back to the point with my Hithaeglir Goblins/Orcs where I was before I had to strip an entire unit due to crappy primer that had somehow gotten oil on it.

I am really happy with a few of them, but I am having a bitch of a time with the metallics, which do not seem to be working very well on these.

I am getting splotchy dry-brushing on the chainmail, and the weapons are too grainy. I am thinking it might be the paints for the weapons, and for the chainmail, I need to begin the drybrushing when the wash is still slightly wet. That might help blend the colors a bit better.

As for the weapons... I have a TON of extra weapons that will never be used, so I might prime some of them for practice, just to work out what works and what doesn't.

Recovering from Warhammer World's reopening. So many lovely people, but so much time standing up on my poor abused feet. Saw some big dioramas. Biiiiiig.
Went in costume, never done that before and felt ridiculous, but thankfully a mate went with me in his commissar gear and I could hide behind him.

I've been pretty lax on the miniature front - first I was too busy, then I shifted focus to revamping recent tool acquisitions and woodwork. After work, I hope to finish the last of my sharpening tasks, allowing me to clear off the workbench and finally resume either painting or modeling.

That's Rapidograph, GrimDork. You can find the KOH-I-NOOR pens in a set at Michaels, IIRC, but if you're looking around online, it helps to have the name spelled correctly!

Wee! Armada looks kind of neat but I'm already so heavily invested in X-wing I hesitate to buy so much as the Armada starter for fear of entering the same situation...

Looks neat though.

Working on the last of my Lothern Sea Guard command (the banner), who will probably mark the end of my Elves for a few weeks; I had planned to carry on to a much larger diorama, but I don't want to go gluing them down until I find out exactly what's happening to Fantasy; if the rumours of it becoming a round-base skirmish/non-regiment game pan out I might just see about rebuilding the army.

That, and Wrath of Ashardalon should arrive tomorrow, and I'm eager to get working on that...

Keep painting the remaining rangers. Decided to get the full unit done before I tackle any other miniatures, I want to see the squad fully painted!

I wanted to make a list of what to paint first for Imperial Assault, but the rules were a bit less instantly decipherable than I was hoping. But I guess I could pick the first campaign mission and paint all of the listed Imperial forces and then paint a smattering of heroes, not even sure how many there are. I was thinking I could belt out a few models and bring IA to my library's monthly game day, but the rules may be more complicated than I want to tackle in the short time (end of the month) that I have to prepare, plus getting the models done. Maybe next month.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Having a hobby room clear up, with a mind towards sorting stuff into 'painted decently', 'to be painted', and 'unlikely to be painted/repainted any time soon', and also minimising the number of boxes to save space. Only the best stuff is getting shelf space, the rest is going away for a while.

I also realised while doing this that I have a few hundred quid worth of 40k stuff that quite frankly needs stripping and starting over, so I'll start looking into that at some point.

Working on making a small hut out of cardboard. I know it's measure twice, cut once... but in my case it's measure a bunch of times, cut once, realize it's still messed up, cut it up a lot more out of sheer frustration.

@Toasteroven, sounds about right for me too

Shame about the missing ranger head, you wouldn't happen to have a spare regular marine/vet head or two? Could use one of the yelling ones I tend to use for the squad leaders for the ranger squad leader too.
