I'm hoping it doesn't come with the egg sack attached, though- would rather have a mobile queen like at the end of Aliens

Manchu- I'm not the only one who said they would've preferred more closed eggs! But it's no biggie

Yesterday finished pretty strong -- but check out the comment explosion! I asked about this yesterday and someone mentioned reaching 1000 backer but are there any other explanations for all the sudden chatter?

@Manchu why's that terrible? Feth, my primary use for these will be in infinity - terrible as well? With this IP it's inevitable a significant percentage of sales will be to those interested in the models, but with nary a care for the game Prodos is taping onto said resin shineys

I'd really like painted facehuggers gestating in clear cast closed eggs that you can ink and mist with and an airbrush. Don't see that happening though - not retail anyway.

I would bet the egg sac will be a separate (as in buy separate) piece or an entirely separate queen + egg sac model.

Taste is taste; I'm more against the idea that AvP ought to be X so someone can use it for not-AvP.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not especially concerned about the game Prodos is making, either. But what I do want to see is this particular IP done really, really well. As you say, people are interested in the IP first and foremost. What might work as Nids or in Infinity doesn't matter when it comes to what Prodos should be doing. Prodos should take what's in the franchise and do that really, really well. Dynamic egg sculpts with facehuggers jumping or climbing out is better for the franchise than generic eggs. That's what BrookM would call the wing-wong money shot. It's a key moment for the IP.

Of course, that's only assuming these options are mutually exclusive. Another set that is a closed egg only would not necessarily take up further resources as long as people were content to have double sculpt sets. I mean, there is no real reason to sculpt another closed or slightly opening egg.

^^Yes indeed, I have been holding off for a while, but there does seem to be a really steady stream of backers. Which means I might just get on board. The UK has recently seen Aliens SE and Predators air, which has gotten me in the mood so to speak!

Since I'll be using these with nids, and might not use the facehugger models, having eggs without the facehuggers coming out of them works better for me.

Lots of folks love the model shown, though, so I think they'll sell lots of these!

I use eggs as spore mines. I know xenomorph eggs don't actually explode but it is fun to see the enemy models shoot them first as I deploy them pretty aggressively. Always cool to see guardsmen trying their hardest *not* to become the next chestburster.

Yes, despite the initial negativity, this KS is becoming a steadily sweeter deal. I especially like the choose-your-own upgrade rewards that are mixed with the facehuggers and bezerkers. This is perfect -- just contrast RiTides and myself, for example: RiTides is all about the Predalien but I want nothing to do with it. With this set-up, both parties win!

It's looking to me like, as long as new backers and pledges remain consistent, then we'll hit 2000 backers and the Alien Queen with a day or 2 to spare. Fingers crossed!

I really hope there is a stretch goal that increases (read: improves) the model quantity of the base game. Not only for the kickstarter backers, but for the retail release as well.

I recall this being done on a few projects and they seemed to be popular options.

The ks backers get nicely modelled resin options as incentive and everyone comes out ahead. Everyone.

For example, the newly revealed egg option. Those should be included in the base game. No brainer there. But the 10 pound buy in is a bit prohibitive. Enough for me to easily consider other options as shown last page without a second thought. If I am going to buy them, then may as well get something closer to what I want.

The Marine numbers need to be padded a bit more in the base game as well, such as another squad and the sarge as default.

I know this is a premium product, but you don't have to use the GW business model mentality in order to be successful. You really don't.

More perceived value equals greater success for the project and happy customers which in turn means more money in the long run for Prodos.

A point consumers have been trying to beat into GWs thick numbskull for years now. Long term not short term is the way to think. As we see, GW is suffering for pricing people out of their products. And people are happily leaving to bigger and much better products.

OK. That was a bit ranty than intended. My apologies to the reader. But this is an important product. People have been waiting many years for this to occur and everyone who is interested in this IP wants this product line to be successful. Hence a few heated discussions about expectations.

Long story short is that just because this is a premium product, doesn't mean it has to be priced to make the consumer feel a bit gouged. The eggs not being part of the game by default, makes me at least and quite a few others judging by remarks I've read, feel a bit gouged.

Prodos, like GW, will get their money, but this is a short term capital mindset. A long term customer satisfaction mindset will garner them more capital in the long run.

That's my thoughts on the matter. Give value to them as you see fit. Damn tablet is hard to post with. So many typos. Sorry for the edits.

Regarding things not going so fast, Prodos did mention on Facebook that in the next few days he's having a baby or something along those lines, so there's that going on behind the scenes.

Overall, I am really enjoying this Kickstarter and the day to day posts in this thread.

Bleh, not this terrible reasoning again. :(

Rather than counts-as, I was more thinking along the lines of scenery like this. Entering a room that's full of eggs for that... "oh... gak" moment that ripley is experiencing, some of that induced by the Queens rapist breathing.

Also, did anybody back that Assimilation Alien Host kickstarter, and what the hell happened with that?

Don't forget how time-intensive and error-prone (two huge cost-risk factors!) order-pocking in volume can be on a one-time basis for companies who do not have a structure for such activities in place (and at least that last bit includes CMoN, lol ).
I agree the value isn't fantastic and I certainly will be going for (at least) one base game box instead, but I think they are trying to provide some level of service at least, without giving themselves a huge headache they obviously (and reasonably so) have little desire for.

I agree they are incentivizing game box pledges over and above the risk/cost factors mentioned but that's not only their bare prerogative, it's also quite understandablr as a way to get people to play an actual game (which they might buy more models for!) rather than just making a one-time purchase.
And let's be honest: with the way they're adding freebies the value, for decently cast (if not Mierce/McVey quality) resin is becoming rather good already, so this is more of a somewhat headache-inducing option for the odd man out among pledgers.
That they service those as well with a 'good enough' level shows a rather sensible commitment to customer service without hat being at the expense of good business sense, IMO.

I agree with you in terms of encouraging people to play their game, but disagree on the topic of it being a headache - not particularly more than the rest of the pledge levels anyway if you look at their freebie/add-on structure.

Exactly! And as Manchu says, the two aren't mutually exclusive, but there are a lot of folks who liked closed eggs. Despite my earlier comment, my main reason for wanting them is just that I think they look cooler (for scenes such as you laid out).

Alien Assimilation Host- heck yeah I backed it! I even bought out someone else's pledge. I am down for 3 Queen pledges and 1 Host pledge on there, which is... well, quite a lot. Wave 1 is just about to ship and I plan to use those models for AdeptiCon this year (only counting on Wave 1, not anything else, before then). I think they'll mix in nicely with Prodos models once both are released, as well!

I think he meant soas not to draw attention to them in case Fox brings the hammer down. But honestly, it's already a page back and Prodos has a LOT to worry about right now, so I don't think it should be much of an issue. Just wanted folks to know about the option here, and have a place to go back and remember it myself if needed!

They've said they are 3 full-time employees, but I don't know if they do sculpting in-house or not so there may be more people than that involved in the project.

I think one of them primarily gives the communication / updates, and that that person also corresponds with who is having the baby (or rather, whose spouse is).

Sculpting does not seem to be in-house as per the earlier greens thread. Hope they train someone up on the business end of KS because it's a fragile thing to be open for business with nobody minding the counter. Emergencies happen and all but something like this can be planned for.

Oh, I think closed eggs are also fairly iconic to the franchise - an option for each type would make perfect sense.

I think the timing has to do with the 25th anniversary of AvP next year, as BrookM mentioned- there were several other licenses given out almost simultaneously with this, so the timing may not have been in Prodos hands.

But I agree of course, however so far I have not had a problem getting answers to emails using the "contact us" button on Kickstarter, and even responses to my posts in the comments section there.
