Must've missed it since again, on my phone while trying to see your point since you pointed out the green grid detail. If you can't be bothered to Google or look at their kickstarter page for an example of their smooth texturing on that particular portion of the model, I will certainly provide a link to a picture (likely on earlier pages) once I get to a computer. If bubbling is your query, I have about 17 models that are on my table at home. 4 or 5 are off the sprue and cleaned up. The rest are on their sprues still flash and all. I can take pictures of them for you to review. They are not on their alien line though, so I will pm you them to try and keep this thread from devolving into their other line (more so than my own doing so far). I or anyone here could also attempt to contact them to provide an unpainted closeup example or three. Customer service has been a mixed bag supposedly, but my personal experience has had them getting me a response within 24 hours. Which is excellent in my opinion.

Edit: Maybe not on the pictures. I'm actually failing to find better closeups of that model unpainted.

Upper left is a decent closeup. Note the smooth surface and the detail present. About as close up as the last picture on page 109, but the opposite side. Only touching up that I can possibly see is a possible filling in on the arm joint and leg joint. There are a few models on their facebook/thread on here/I think their kickstarter as well that are closer and clearer.

Yes, Bob, I am quite aware of what makeup/painting can do to a model/person/object.

The upper left one has smooth, fleshy arms and thighs. The head is smooth, but in context with the whole body it just looks under-detailed and unfinished. After all, even the smooth-headed aliens had creases where they retracted their upper lips when baring their teeth.

And he's clearly chewing on a Milkbone.

Can anyone pull up what the base sizes are going to be? I saw them somewhere but I can't seem to find that information now.

On a good note Aliens don't have pockets! I would never have guessed those were painted on perfectly sculpted buttocks.

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

I just expect a lot personally. I've pledged, but that had more to do with the IP than what I've seen so far. I mean a lot of stuff doesn't even have renders yet. I'm not saying what they've done so far is bad, but the aliens are a tad underwhelming imho. In relation to what has been available they are better, but not excellent. My hopes are for the Warriors. There is also another vendor for proper predators (as in licensed as far as I can tell) of the limited collectible variety that are amazingly detailed and sculpted in 28/30mm by industry talents at a similar pricepoint. So my interest is mostly in the alien department and legacy stuff - like a powerloader and a queen and hopefully main characters down the line. In my case though I am looking at every figure (from all ranges) like a possible centerpiece for a diorama. It's all relative to what you are looking for - if I was just in this for gaming I would probably share that unfaltering enthusiasm

I actually share this view- am really hoping the Warriors are ace, and have planned to put most of my pledge towards them and the big bugs (planning to get 40 warriors!) and skip the stalkers and infants.

Cpt. Jake, you need to take a look at that thread, hopefully that should put your concerns to rest. These miniatures are as really well detailed - that much for 28mm is knocking on Corvus Belli/Taban territory, very nice.

I'm looking. They are okay. I've definitely seen better detailing and assembly. Looks like shoulders and legs don't join well with bodies in some instances (or whomever assembled these did a poor job.)

Is that line on the alien head a vein or flash?

Not sure if the detail on the face is as soft as this picture would lead me to believe.

This face isn't great either:

Is the smart gun supposed to connect to the trooper's harness in some way?

instead of:

Except for the smart gun, the marines look the best out of what they show in that thread.

Admittedly, I have seen a lot worse, but I have also seen a lot better. These are good, but not close to great. I understand why showing the pro-painted versions suits them better.

And this would be why folks are cautious about IndieGoGo... the fact that they still haven't taken that down points to the fact that there is, if possible, even less oversight on there than on Kickstarter

But I was specifically pointed to those pictures as examples of the divinity of these sculpts. I took that as an invitation to question them.

Again, these are not bad, but they are not great. The pro-painted pictures when compared to the pictures in my above post help (I think) make my point that there is a big difference between what a pro painter who knows how to use a camera can do, and what these figures actually look like. And that is why I want to see unpainted pictures of all the minis.

I'm buying enough of these that I feel justified is stating my opinion at this point, fan boys be damned.

Sorry, I meant when I asked "Is that a vein?" earlier folks got upset (as apparently it's clear to them that it isn't!). No issues with what you posted although those are old pics from during the campaign, not new ones as busby posted. Hopefully we'll get more, particularly of the individual components, as Prodos progresses / Fox approves things.

I am just glad they have updated photos on their forums for people to take a look at. I personally have not purchased any of the AvP models during the kickstarter, but will likely do so in the future.

And to be clear, they say the first step is admitting so: I am a fanboy of Warzone. Not a fanboy of AvP, but do like what they have put out for the range thus far (not that I was called out or anything).

I don't think I was clear on one thing, busby- those photos (from the forums) are from during the campaign / we'd already seen them. Hence why I already had commented on the "vein"

I know a lot of people might be disappointed by the models. You picky people you but to me as just casual collector/player of warhammer, which I don't need to remind people has some terrible mold lines and everyone knows about finecast.....

To me im not looking for hyper real, ultra polished models. Ive wanted AVP miniatures since the AVP extinction game and now finally someone is making them and they look good to me I honestly see no problems with the models except for no smart gun rig!!!! *shakes fist*

I'm just glad to be able to get some AVP miniatures, all of them O____O!

Still, can't believe i missed the kickstarter, im kicking myself. Maybe I'll find myself someone willing to sell me their pledge stock they get lol

Have you looked at the prices?

Because, I felt the exact same way as you seem to until I saw the ridiculous prices. For the prices Prodos wants us to pay, the models need to be perfect, and not just "yay, Aliens! Good enough for me!"

After seeing the price of space marine centurions nothing in the miniatures world of prices surprise me anymore and things like the Warmachine starter set is just as expensive, as is most warmachine models for what you get. The rights to the license alone must have cost a fair bit.

Are they ridiculous?

5 colonial marines from prodos for £15
4 white ops troops from hasslefree I think are 12
10 tactical marines from GW £25

And those rant paying 20th century fox to be able to make the minis as we'll

Seem like reasonable prices to me, after paying out the face for GW products over the years, these for what you get seem excellent. Perfect for when you have a bit of cash left over at the end of the month and want to grab a few more marines or aliens.

Had GW made them you would get 3 marines for £25 and have to buy a smart gun separate and use one of the marines as a converted model for it. The alien queen would be around £70

And what if I just wanted predators or alien eggs?

PS: Some of us think GW, PP, Infiniti and all the boutique mini sellers are also pretty ridiculous.

Of course you do otherwise you wouldnt have said it in the first place

We all have our internal Scrooge Mcduck telling us what we'll be willing to pay for toy soldiers.

For me compared to the rest of the sci fi market I dont think they are unreasonable. Especially considering their paying for a licence and what at the moment looks like a potentialy low model count skirmish game.

What do you consider a reasonable price bob?
