Grey Knight Tactica (Sample Army Lists)

Written By GoDz BuZzSaW

Hello and Welcome to Part 8 of My Grey Knight Tactica, this is the final section of my tactica which will put all of the details on the previous parts together and take a look on various list builds for the Grey Knight army which can range from Casual to Competitive. All of the army lists below will bring the unit reviews over the previous parts of my tactica, and the tactics, together to show how each army does on the table and how competitive and versatile it can be. Each army list is done at 1750 points to show what it would be like in a tournament or just with a friendly game at your FLGS. Please take each army list with a pinch of salt, this brings together both personal and general preference, so tweaks can be made to make it suit you:

Draigowing:

"Not even the mightiest of armies can slay the emperor's finest warriors"

HQ:

Draigo 275

Troops:

6 Paladins 485

MC Hammer, Apothecary, 2 Psycannons, One with MC Halberd, The other with Halberd, Brotherhood Banner, Falchions

Elites:

Techmarine 118

Blind Grenades, Psychotroke Grenades, Rad Grenades,1 Servo Skull

Techmarine 115

Blind Grenades, Psychotroke Grenades, Rad Grenades

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought 136

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition, Searchlight

Dreadnought 136

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition, Searchlight

1748/1750

Paladins are not the greatest choice when they are Elites, the high price tag and the lack of being able to capture objectives comes as a major turn off to Grey Knights players, but thanks to Grand Master Lord Kaldor Draigo, these unstoppable killing machines can be made as a troop choice, whilst this army list numbers so little, it is impossible to kill for armies such as Orks, Tyranids and Tau empire due to the lack of AP2 weaponry that each army possesses, This army excels at the centre of the battlefield where it can deal out punishing fire whilst taking a lot themselves and remaining unharmed, this list does struggle slightly against Dark Eldar and on the ocassion Space Wolves as there is a lot of S8 weaponry which can cause Instant Death, It may be good to take Psybolt Ammunition to combat the Dark Eldar threat so their vehicles can be penetrated by storm bolters as well as the Psycannons.

The Crowe Purfier Spam:

Hammer, 2 Psycannons, 2 Halberds, Razorback, Psybolt, Searchlight

Elites:

Venerable Dreadnought 195

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

Venerable Dreadnought 195

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

1740/1750

Arguably the best build in the Grey Knight codex. Some Variants of the Purifier list include 10 man units in Rhinos as opposed to Razorbacks so they can make full use of the Psycannons. This list has it all, from Cleansing Flame for Anti Horde to a total of 10 Psycannons and 4 S8 Autocannons for Anti Tank, this list will be either wanting to sit back and shoot the enemy with S6 Bolters or try to drive to the middle and hold the ground, It is so hard for this list to be beaten as whilst small in number each unit carries an unbelievable amount of punishing weaponry.

Coteaz:

"The Imperial Agents of Formosa use Knowledge as their greatest weapon"

HQ:

Coteaz 100

Troops:

Henchmen Squad 205 5 Death Cult Assassins, 5 Crusaders, Chimera, Hull Mounted Heavy Flamer

Henchmen Squad 237 6 Death Cult Assassins, 6 Crusaders, Chimera, Hull Mounted Heavy Flamer

Henchmen Squad 237 6 Death Cult Assassins, 6 Crusaders, Chimera, Hull Mounted Heavy Flamer

Henchmen Squad 220 6 Psykers, 3 Jokeros, Chimera, Hull Mounted Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support:

Dreadknight 265

Personal Teleporter, Nemisis Greatsword, Heavy Incinerator

Dreadknight 265

Personal Teleporter, Nemisis Greatsword, Heavy Incinerator

1749/1750

I like this list, it's great fun to play with and it wouldn't be too bad on the tabletop either. Just make sure that the Chimeras containing the Death Cult/Crusader units make it to the other side of the board while the Psyker Jokero units pop away at the enemy whilst staying in the objectives closer to your deployment. The Dreadknights will compliment the list seeing as they will draw a lot of firepower away from the Chimeras in the early turns of the game allowing them to get across the board. This is capable of winning games for sure.

List Rating: Competitive

Jokero Weaponsmith:

"With Weird and Wonderful Contraptions, the Jokaero are as Unpredictable as they are Deadly"

HQ:

Coteaz 100

Troops:

Henchmen Squad 296

5 Jokaero Weaponsmiths, 6 Psykers, Chimera, Heavy Flamer, Searchlight, Dozer Blade

5 Jokaero Weaponsmiths 236

Chimera, Heavy Flamer, Searchlight, Dozer Blade

5 Jokaero Weaponsmiths 236

Chimera, Heavy Flamer, Searchlight, Dozer Blade

5 Jokaero Weaponsmiths 236

Chimera, Heavy Flamer, Searchlight, Dozer Blade

5 Jokaero Weaponsmiths 236

Chimera, Heavy Flamer, Searchlight, Dozer Blade

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought 136

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition, Searchlight

Dreadnought 136

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition, Searchlight

Dreadnought 136

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition, Searchlight

1748/1750

This is the best way to take a Jokaero army as opposed to the 72 man army! With this you can sit back in your Chimeras whilst shooting 5 Lascannons out of the hatch per tank, as well as the multi lasers on the chimeras themselves, which makes a worrying amount of high strength weaponry. Each unit is capable of dealing with Horde, Heavy Infantry or Vehicles, just be warned, if the enemy get into combat it's all over!

List Rating: Competitive

Mordrak 'Alpha Strike':

"Many a foe has been caught unprepared and unaware by Vroth Mordrak and his Spirit Men, which leap to defend him from the enemy's counter attacks."

HQ:

Mordrak 200

Ghost Knights 225

1 Hammer, 4 Halberds, Banner

Librarian 175

Might of Titan, Quicksilver, The Shrouding, Psychic Communion, Warp Rift

Troops:

7 Terminators 310

MC Hammer, Psycannon, Psybolt, 5 Halberds

7 Terminators 310

MC Hammer, Psycannon, Psybolt, 5 Halberds

Heavy Support:

Dreadknight 265

Personal Teleporter, Nemisis Greatsword, Heavy Incinerator

Dreadknight 265

Personal Teleporter, Nemisis Greatsword, Heavy Incinerator

I'm on the fence on this list, this list can bring some early turn hurt IF Mordrak and the Librarian can stay alive to get the Terminators in on a 2+ turn 2, but those Dreadknights are really going to bring the hurt for the opponent if they can get close, this list has the potential to be semi competitive, nothing more, but it is still an Interesting build which could prove itself.

List Rating: Casual/Semi Competitive

Stormraven:

"The most feared of the Steel Soldiers are found aboard Flying Fortresses, Destroying everything in their Path"

HQ:

Librarian 175

Might of Titan, Quicksilver, The Shrouding, The Sanctuary, Warp Rift

Troops:

5 Terminators 230

MC Hammer, 4 Halberds, Psycannon

5 Terminators 230

MC Hammer, 4 Halberds, Psycannon

5 Terminators 230 MC Hammer, 4 Halberds, Psycannon

Fast Attack:

Stormraven 205

TL Multi Melta, TL Plasma Cannon

Stormraven 205

TL Multi Melta, TL Plasma Cannon

Stormraven 205

TL Multi Melta, TL Plasma Cannon

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought 135

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

Dreadnought 135

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

1750/1750

Stormravens work well and pairs, and this is really the only good way to take them, their AV12 will be easily penetrated when on their own however several stormravens will be a lot harder to stop, give them a turn or two and they can really cause some hurt on your opponent by getting right in their face and maybe taking down one or two of their vehicles on their way with a TL Multi Melta. This is a good list, and will have all you need to take down Tanks and Heavy infantry, while it does lack against horde armies, the terminators provide enough shots and protection to avoid being mobbed by orks and Tyranids. If I was to increase to 2000, i would look at swapping the Dreads out for Dreadknights which will be able to provide the enemy with more early turn worries due to having 3 ravens and 2 Dreadknights in their face!

List Rating: Competitive

Strike Squad:

"Whilst Strike Squads form the standard line of battle, they can lay down a punishing rate of firepower in their own right, and are not to be faced without caution"

HQ:

Brotherhood Champion 100

Troops:

Strike Squad 275

MC Hammer, 2 Psycannons, Rhino

Strike Squad 275

MC Hammer, 2 Psycannons, Rhino

Strike Squad 275

MC Hammer, 2 Psycannons, Rhino

Strike Squad 275

MC Hammer, 2 Psycannons, Rhino

Elites:

8 Purifiers 248 MC Hammer Digital Weapons, 2 Psycannons, 5 Halberds, Rhino

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought 135

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

Dreadnought 135

2 TL Autocannons, Psybolt Ammunition

This list is Versatile and will be capable of taking on all opponents, Whilst the Strike Squads only have a single attack they are still capable of performing in close combat, however in the middle of the board will be the ideal location for this list, The Strike Squads will be located in the centre punching out 4-8 Psycannon shots from the Rhino hatch, whilst the Purifier list is more effective there are no doubts that the Strike Squad list can still perform.
