Some Bolt Action tonight.
My WiP US Army + another players Brits held the field against the Finns.
The MVP of the game was my flamethrower team.
They torched the Finns T34, depriving them of any viable AT capability. This forced the Finns player to concede as he couldn't deal with our armor.

The Cursed Cathedral
The Cathedral called once again, to animate the bones of myself and my fallen comrades. We had assaulted the Cathedral, only to find the bony fate that would beheld us once we fell as well. Tired, desiring even a slumberless rest, not all of us knitted back our bones to obey the needs of the Cathedral. Its prey of flesh was across the river, and we trudged forward, dimly aware of their living, but not of the bolts and arrows that pelted our bodies. The Cathedral even summoned a boatload of undead, led by a Grim Knight, though I saw it fallen first with a well-placed bolt to the head. As we made our way across the river, I saw the boat, the lifeless undead returning to mere lifelessness. As arrows pierced my body, I returned to nothingness as well, free of the Cursed Cathedral.

Blood drinkers vs death guard. 67-69. Secondaries mine but he dominated primaries. 6 terminator and hero pushed servo skull to my zone scoring 33 alone...
And i gave 3 vp to his secondary when gladiator lancer shot his rhino denying it, then rhino blew and killed marine giving secondary. Nooo!
(that literally won him game)

Khaine vs khorne. Jaws of gallet. Made mistake going first. Then was in icky spot give double and lose chunks or take priority and my objectlves burned. And blood tithe used to tag me so primary points were 3 2 1 and for last 2 turns can't while he scores 3 every turn.
R3 bottom 21-10 for sure before factoring in bt's and gs's for r4&5...
I rolled horrible scenarios for both of matches...

Blood drinkers against death guard again. Terminators busy at backlines giving me 3/5 objectives and i focused on non-terminators reducing him to 2 units of terminators. Both almost maxed secondaries but 50-30 primaries flipped. Largely helped by 15-5 post game score.

First outing with nids. 1.5k. We wrapped it after 3 rounds. I'm at lead and death guard nearly tabled with tyranids swarming over every objective.
Key moment on turn 2 unleashing shadow in the warp with terminator blob failing. Allowed screamer killer and swarmlord take them out while plague marines were bombarded.

Had another Killteam game yesterday, and finally grabbed my first win in a Critical Ops "Secure" mission, scoring 14-9. We played for 5 turning points instead of 4 because we were playing on a 4x4' table again, I'd say 5-6 turning points is perfect for this size of board (as long as both teams have a standard 3WHITE movement stat..) and I love the more cinematic feel of a bigger board in Killteam. We added an inch to the objective marker distances (so BLUE instead of WHITE from each other ) to keep em more in scale with the larger board as well.
I got to a great start during the first turning points (My scion gunner killing that pesky ML heretic in one overcharged plasma shot), but then started making dumb mistakes, which almost cost me the game.. Luckily, by the time I started getting beaten, my VP lead had grown large enough to still secure a victory. My funniest operative must have been a Scion comms guy (you might have seen him in my KT21 plog), he had a medikit and was supposed to heal my other operatives, but ended up getting shot a bunch and in the end had to heal himself twice
All in all, a quite enjoyable game. I actually like how the Compendium guard team plays, keeps it simple stupid, so that this game I didn't even forget to use most of my ploys etc

Scute never did like that his almost-twin brother, Cod, ran off with that "From the Woods" warband, much less that his brother was the only one to die on their watch. Scute's only reminder of his brother was his brother's scarecrows, three rather unwholesome looking things that stood over his unimpressive plot of land. Cod was buried under one of the trees on the farm, next to his scarecrows that he was unwholesomely fond of. And the "From the Woods" warband had the temerity to return, requesting lodging as part of their Ride Patrol. Freeloaders. But, that morning, Scute would feel a little grateful of the warband's presence as they refreshed themselves near the village well, and send arrows and bolts into the attacking robbers, the last of whom fled away, leaving two arrows in his felled fellow townsfolk, and one more in the still-standing scarecrows.

We wound up playing a 3 player 6th Edition WFB pitched battle at Classichammer day this month, with Ashley running a coalition of 2,000 points of High Elves and 2,000 points of Dwarfs vs. Hector's 2,000 points of Beastmen and my 2,000 points of Skaven. 2 games with tsons. First league game against death guard who made slight deployment mistake that cost him a lot. Going first helped to get to side objectives that gave primaries to me. His terminator group meanwhile alone scored 24/44 of his vp's and zeroed my t3 secondaries. 2 that require holding home when it was partially deliberately given to dg...(figured better there so won't kill my stuff.
73-44
Then up against 10 desolators, 2x5 infiltrators, 6 aggressors and misc stuff. Desolators shot and shot but it was infiltrators that cost me game due to 12" no ds bubble. T2 tried to kill 5 with 5 terminators but failed so not only i was 5 behind primaries he got thanks to them tempting target and area denial for 10vp. So had he failed to get there i would have won actually as i lost by 9vp.
Magnus was funny. First i pass 7/7 inv saves taking just 2 wounds. Hah! I am invincible! Then 6 aggressors charge. 18 attacks hitting and wounding 4+ rerolls and 4+ save. Average is 5 in and i had 2 rerolls. 10 in...then captain took down to 1.
So much for i am invincible...

Isengard vs dwarves.
Started well with dwarves retreating in face of blistering crossbow fire. Then Lurtz's group collapsed and leader faced death which was bad considering scenario.
However lurtz managed to shield keeping himself alive long enough to get a chance to do tactical retreat leaving friends behind. Meanwhile troll got whittled to 1w. Balin got overeager and using heroic combat went in but no heroic strike saw him dead.
We both broke but my leader alive and his dead gave me win.

Last round up against csm. Fun game though lost solidly. My saving throws were abysmally bad to start. Magnus failing 5/6 inv saves despite 2 or 3 rerolls. Ate cp more to negate damage. Got down to 4 wounds and then died failing 4 3+ rolls. Had 1passed could have survlved...
This also ate cp so 10 terminator blob never got good chance and using half-measured didn't appeal as cypher makes then psychic bolters 2cp. Add to that 2 units surviving making teleport position hard t2...
T3 they came in and nuked noise marines and abbadon but too little too late. I couldn't survive at objectives so lost on primaries horribly. No help from secondaries either.

Soulblight vs slaves to darkness. we likely mlsplayed the scenario as we went with raw but t2 noticed raw basically makes many armies unplayable. Like this archaon...so either we played deployment wrong by not going rai(we think) or we played wrong by allowing archaon to even play. Raw he wouldn't even get to use him...
After this back to game. He charged in, took out screens. Double and game looked bad. Archaon out of reserve doing 9" charge and dicey. However this allowed cunning pile in move that limited damage.
My turn needing 3 9" charges made them like a champ!
Alas part b of comeback plan and get counter double failed.
However he failed 2 6" charges evening 1 battle tactic failed each. Still 2 ahead primaries...
Then vengorian lord died. Very bad.
My turn gamble. Disallow wards, charge.
My roar failed, his worked, archaon alive and vampire lord on dragon died.
3 units of skeletons, foot vampire and single blood knight not enough vs 2x3 varanguard and archaon...

40k (pure Khorne demons vs SM) this afternoon.
What I'd wanted to field: a mass of Bloodletters backed up by a prince, throne, & a pair of Skull Cannon.
What I ended up fielding: Karnak, 2x10 Fleshhounds, 2x Skullmasters (the mounted hero), & 3x3 Bloodcrushers.
Why the difference? I grabbed the wrong black case on my way out the door.
Fun game. Very decisive Khorne victory though.
My opponent was not very aggressive concerning siezing objectives & I largely pinned him in his DZ.

My friend came over, and we played another game of The Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game. Playing a scenario I made of the cultists of Jaroai summoning a Jaroai as Anargrin and his team desperately try to stop it (which was the scenario my BatRep was based on). I set up the map, and I played Anargrin (the dude in the blue shirt) and his merry five-man band of misfits, my friend, the cultists (and his daughter too, but she was only seven and lost interest quite quickly and wandered off). We had fun, but the way I placed the terrain left me at a huge disadvantage; I also lost the deployment roll, which prevented me from having Emilia transform into a werewolf before the game (so she has to use a turn to transform) and stopping Anargrin to go into infiltration mode. It's been a bit of a slog. I already lost my sniper, Raleas. We only managed to finish two rounds, so he's going to come over another day. I have four rounds to kill the summoners, then the Jaroai is released and there's a fifth extra round so the attackers can either run or try to kill it.
Here's a few photos.

Victory: Team gray.
Though it was a fairly close game right up until turn 5...
My role in this venture was to
A) clear any enemy armor - a task the hammerheads had no trouble doing.
B) exploit openings with the piranhas & stealth suits to do secondary objectives.
Meanwhile, the Gray Marines did alot of the actual fighting.
Especially around the central objective.

How do mixed edition codicies turn out in your games?
I do it sometimes but I feel compelled to adjust point values on 6th edition values.
125436
Post by: aphyon
They combine just fine under our house rules, as 3rd-7th are very cross compatible. all rules must conform to their 5th ed counterparts or they are ignored. for example what is the rule representing? i like to use dune strider(9" basic movement) as an example. it does not exist in 5th, it is trying to represent the units ability to traverse rough terrain. but 5th has fixed movement for all unit types, since extra movement outside those guidelines is not allowed the rule in 5th it is representing is move through cover. the unit in question gains 3d6 (instead of 2d6) take the highest when making moves through difficult terrain.
I have an entire topic to discuss older editions in the general 40K section, and a rules topic in the proposed rules section that covers the fixes we made to use all codexes from 3rd-7th under 5th ed rules. most of it is which rules from which edition work in 5th edition. so it goes
A. 5th edition core rules/USRs
B. fixes to 5th edition via importing rules that worked better in other editions or add flavor to to the game. IE 4th ed wound allocation and vehicle assault rules, 7th ed snap fire, overwatch and grenade throwing.
C. ignoring non-compatible rules like hull points, the extra cost for basic grenades from older codexes (all standard in 5th for free) etc...
The goal is to make the game more fun for all involved.

Post by: Maréchal des Logis Walter
Yeah, we're doing the same with my pals, just curious how you do it in case there are any useful new ideas i didn't think of! I'll take a look at your dedicated topic.
We go about it quite the same way in fact, however playing in 6th.
For my brother's orks we've actually re-written a word file as a codex mixing all of the 3 to 7th, based on the 4th edition one, each time selecting our preferred itaration of units if it appears multiple times. It was also aimed at helping him a bit as his orks really struggle.
We're also used to play with one codex normally but add in older or newer units, like with my IG I sometimes use penal legions squads that I take from 5th edition codex, using it as is.
125436
Post by: aphyon
What we do is select what we consider the best codex for the faction, but if there is a newer unit...say trygon for tyranids (we use the 4th ed codex) we take the base points costs from the new book then buy all the upgrades and use the rules out of the main (4th ed) codex.
we have found with few exception almost nothing is needed from 6th or 7th ed except the armies that never existed prior, specifically gene stealer cults, knights/admech/skitari (they are the same army afterall GW just split up the books to make more $$$), deathwatch and custodes. obviously all the FW books are used without issues.
codex wise since we are more into making it fit the theme and lore. most codexes we use are from 3rd/index astartes/chapter approved, 4th and from 5th.
My personal collection-3rd
.index astartes-white scars, iron hands etc...
.chapter approved/imperial armor 1-armored company imperial guard

Finally - finally! - played my first game of 10th. Character heavy Dark Angels (my opponent) vs Big Bug heavy Tyranids (me!). It was the first time either of us have played 10th. Was playing against my oldest friend. We've been friends 30 years this year, and he's the bastard who got me into 40k in the first place. We had an absolute blast! 10th certain has its problems - some of them quite major issues, like points/list building, characters being useless when not leading units, cover/ LOS rules, and psychic powers being really dull - but the reduction in the cognitive load one has to endure compared to 9th is such a massive improvement. For the first two turns of the game I forgot about my Detachment rule. From turn 3 onwards I remembered it every time. The last time I played 'Nids I got to the end of the game and realised there were a half dozen special rules that I had completely forgotten existed for the entire game. I'll post some pics up soon once I get home, but it was a game that ran for an entire 5 turns (no tabling on turn 2 due to super-duper 9th Ed lethality) and despite the Marines having 5 models on the table at the end of the final turn, it really came down to objectives scored (less than 10 points separated us in the end). I love the missions cards, as they're always getting you to do different things, change your plans, and react to different situations. There were times where I had to give up shooting on units I really wanted to use (Hive Tyrant and Neurotyrant) to ensure that I could score objectives. Had I just gone for the kill, the points I scored off that particular secondary would have put me behind and I would have lost. Things we learnt: 1. Haruspexes are fething monstrous. One of them ate a unit of Aggressors, and the other his Terminators (after I softened them up with shooting a bit). One survived, on two wounds! I even got to use the tongue attack. Twice! And the Precision ability actually worked. 2. Infernus Marines are terrifying. Yes, part of that comes from the changes to Overwatch, but my opponent put them quite central (you'll see once the pics show up), and they meant that any attempts to get near the centre objective would be tough. Eventually I bit the bullet and went in, but it was quite hard. They're no slouches in melee either, with 3 attacks each. 3. Von Ryan's Leapers are worth every point for that Fights First ability. All of them died in the end, but they allowed me to keep the Infernus Marines from shooting for the middle of the game. They probably would've come out on top if not for... 4. ... the Outriders. Outriders are absurdly hard to kill. We were both shocked by how good they turned out to be. 5. I was worried that Psychophage was a bit of a waste, as for the first three turns they hung back and acted as FNP aura-givers. But after the first Haruspex went down, and I was forced to fall back with second lest it die before I could swing, with the Reapers dead, the two of them had to step up. They're not mainline big bugs, but as a support or mop-up force they're fantastic... unless the opponent has an attached Psyker, in which case they are death incarnate. One of my Psychophages wiped out the rest of the Infernus Marines as they had a Libby with them. Anti-Psyker 2+ plus Dev Wounds is rough. 6. The Lieutenant w/Combi-Weapon might be the oddest duck in that Leviathan box. I included him simply because he was part of the box, but neither of us expected much from him. Dude's a murder machine. Yes, he's fighting his preferred target (Tyranids) and wouldn't be anywhere near as effective against literally anyone else, but because he was fighting Tyranids I could not ignore him. When he very easily wounded my Haruspex, I made a point of singling him out and eating him! Can't wait for the next game, and I haven't had that thought for a long long time.

Todays battle:
My Tau vs Tyranids. 2k pts.
Finally face some Tyranids her in 10th.
I really had no idea what to expect. (I didn't even know I'd be facing Tyranids)
My Tau prevailed through having vastly more firepower.

Yep, finally pulled out my ages old Tau last week.
2nd time they've been on the table since sometime in 4e.
Never did get around to priming, let alone painting, about 1/2 the force back then. Maybe this time.

I actually played a demo game of Warlord Games Black Seas
The hosts ships were beautiful, but I was not going to paint, base, and rig the ships for myself. I am too lazy for that.
If interested, I have some more pictures and thoughts on Black Seas at the bottom of the blog post:

Nid vs chaos knights. Servo skull primary gave flat 0 but even gambit would still have won. Too hard to keep servo skull coming at me.
At least rupture cannon did 20 damage blowing up big knight doing 6mw to 2 wardog each...
Then nid vs nid combat patrol. I swarmed objectives first and then largely wet towel fighting. Except lone von ryan leaper who rolled 12/12 4+ rolls and i failed 4/6 4++ saves resulting dead warlord
Too bad forgot to take picture from laughing so hard.
Mere 0.02% chance before saves...

We had an absolute blast!
Can't wait for the next game, and I haven't had that thought for a long long time.
Glad to hear it!
As someone who has regularly played 40k out of obligation, its been very strange to realize I've been choosing to focus on it over other games probably for the first time ever. My biggest fear at the moment is just that it won't survive the codex cycle, but I'm having an absolute blast at the moment.

Some nice shots since I last looked, especially the clasic munda table and HBMC's Fronteris base.
My last 4 games looked like this
I was at my Alpine summer house with gaming buddies, we had apocalyptic 100-year rains so we squeezed the 8x4 Aldi folding picnic table in the main bedroom with under a foot of gap to each bed.

I met up with ThePaintingOwl for some games of Grimdark Future Firefight today and it was a blast. He brought Imperial Guards and I brought my Orks. We ended up playing five games in a little less than three hours and had a lot of fun.
Here's a photo of my orks moving in for the kill. At the end of this turn, the then lone remaining guardsman would have killed the final gretchin that would trigger my army to make a morale check. Which of course, they then all failed, causing my whole army to rout! It was a hilarious defeat. I'm sure that guardsman would have some stories to tell back at the barracks.

1st game with sisters in 10th vs death guard as usual. Purge the foe was hard to score and 1 charge from deep strike ruined hold more chance. Killing 5&6 didn't result in kill more either...
Vahl did silly well killing unit of terminators and then soloing the hero and another unit of terminators before nearly chopping crawler.
Miracle dices gave shenigans by the bucketload.

My mechanized & armored Grots (1k pts) teamed up with an upstart Ork warboss & his boyz (teammates 1k pts) to go looting.
Entering an area particularly rich in scrap
(Basic mission card: supply drop) the allied greenskins discovered that apparently the fighting here wasn't quite finished as they came under attack by both Ultramarines & Tyranids.... (our opponents 1k/1k pts)
It was a close game. SM/Tyranids:22/greenskin allies:20.
The game was lost on the final turn when the Warboss insisted on chasing down Old One Eye - instead of advancing onto the opponent objective & scoring us 8 more VP - the warboss was the only model that could've reached that objective.... :(

H.B.M.C. wrote:Did you find much use for low-scoring Miracle Dice (1's and 2's)?
I had big pile of them but a) I kept rolling lower than average b) I first misremembered dialogus rule(it affects only it's unit. DOH! Too blindingly obvious) and then forgot to use to to boot... c) I wanted to keep 3 at hand anyway in case Vahl or triumph dies to bring it up with 3 wounds.
So this game no but had I remembered dialogus rule and put him to retributors would been better and some MD's were always going to be as backup in case Vahl bites the dust. She was wrecking ball I wanted to res if she happens to die just to make opponent panic more when she comes and puts some pain
Also forgetting the +1 to wound stratagem hurts. Could have made difference when Vahl charged crawler alone.
Or tank shock...
Kill the crawler, heroic intervene vs cultists if they come to objective to deny hold more and maybe kill more as well.
So directly no but if distribution would have been ~average it wouldn't have been too bad because dialogus and Vahl backup would have kept all the 1's and 2's useful. Only reason I was having headache with them was that I had silly amount of 1's and 2's with barely any higher ones except toward the end when hospitaler died giving me 4 which finally rolled well.

Finally remembered detachment rule and retributors got good use of crappy miracle dices with dialogus & triumph.

salamanders 5th VS 3.5 chaos small learning game.
Then the big battle 4K double team game-

This was an epic battle, the eldar got worked over pretty hard, but the bikes just would not die-shining spears with farseer on a bike rocking guide and fortune.
A couple epic points-
the custodes dread in a lucius pod dropped danger close behind the chaos defense line and scattered 2" to the the edge of the table.
The chaos lord finished off the eldar superheavy flyer with a close combat assault.
Constantine Valdore showed up, and was boss as expected.
classic battle tech.
My games were all about the Infinity N2 marathon with my 3d printed terrain mostly from corvus. games terrain.

My club is running a 6th ed Fantasy slow grow league at the moment. Thought I'd join in as I have a bunch of Vampire Counts and I always wanted to try Fantasy, although never got the chance as they killed it off just as I was getting into it.
Long story short, I had my first game the other night against a long time returning playing at 800pts aside. Another, very experienced player was running the match for us taking us through the rules and at its core, it's not nearly as complicated as I always assumed it was.
I actually remembered to take a consistent photos throughout the match for once. I never do for my Heresy games.
Set-up
The undead hosts move forward towards the living. While the handgunners start taking a toll on the zombies and skeletons.
After very narrowly avoiding having his head taken off by a cannonball the Necromancer hurries to join the Zombie unit. (landed an inch behind him)
The zombies move up, pinning the knights in place and after some very tense dice rolls, the Necromancer barely survives.
Help is near at hand though. (off screen: the ghouls have charged the flank of the spearmen)
The black knights and skeletons crash into the flanks of the Imperial knights (off screen: despite dealing more wounds then the spearmen, due to rank and banner bonuses, the Ghouls break and run)
And after 2 rounds of combat the Knights flee and run straight off the board with the black knights in hot pursuit.
The zombies and skeletons move up to destroy the cannon, while the handgunners attempt the hold back the tide.
Having destroyed the handgunners in short order, the skeletons lead by a Wight King set about chasing down the enemy wizard who failed a fear test. (ghouls keep running)
Photo missing
The ghouls ran off the board edge. Skeletons, Zombies and Knights reform. After a vicious combat the skeletons are maimed badly, but in the end the spearmen flee.
The black knights charge the lone wizard, but the wizard holds his ground and manages to kill the Hellknight in single combat.

Got in some more Shatterpoint over the weekned. Getting a lot better and preparing for future struggles and having models in position ahead of time. Definitely wouldn't run this specific list again as Anakin, Secondary Obi and Primary Ahsoka all have powerful Force abilities with a high and just don't work well together.
I'm struggling what I think of Primary Ahsoka. All game I feel like she doesn't really do anything, but she was pretty much solely responsible for winning me the game at several points simply by being able to be where she needs to be.

1st game of battletech in long time. Mad cat vs thunderbolt(?) And thug. New for all.
Turn 2 or 3 won priority. Thug came so it was medium range for my longest guns so stood still. Hit with all and caused lucky crit damaging gyro. It spent most of game falling or being prone. Ripped right torso and left leg largely disabling until critted engine 3 times.
Thunderbolt had issues hitting and couple critlcal priority rolls helped. He settled on duel being in forest while i was behind hill. My centei torso got mauled hard(thug got couple solid ppc hits) but he took 1st. We called it game there.

Played 2 Warhammer Fantasy 6th ed games on Sunday, Vampire Counts vs Empire. Game 1 went back and forth a bit, he had the upper hand most of the game. Mortar crew misfired twice, deviated onto his own unit the 3rd turn, ran away then back turns 4 and 5, then misfired again the final turn. It was made up for by his Volley Gun, which in one volley landed 26 hits and wiped 17 Grave Guard in one go. Vampire Lord spent 3 rounds in a Challenge with the Elector Count, causing no wounds while the greatsords chopped down the skeletons. I kept his Knights occupied with cheap summoned skeleton units faced in ways that made him have to spend too much time turning around to be useful, and my ghouls actually did some damage to the Finally killed the Elector Count on the 5th round of combat, only to poof away away to combat res. I was able to summon/move to contest 2 table quarters and control 2 more, plus some captured banners giving a minor win to the undead.
Game 2 was a Capture scenario, and he just couldn't dislodge the undead from the objective. I killed his wizard early and ran rampant with magic, I was summoning models faster than he was killing them. I think the 20-strong skeletons ended with nearly 50 in the unit, and the 20 zombies ended over 35 strong

Lasting Tales: Light the Beacons -or- Don't Offend the Local Druid
Battlemap from Loke Battle Mats' " RPG Toolkit: The Long Road".
Miniatures by Reaper, WotC prepaints, CMON wolves, Blacklist Games wolves.
Terrain (beacon) by Mantic
So, for Lasting Tales, a solo skirmish game, you create an enemy force by spending points equal to the total levels of your party. Half can be spent on elite units, so I spend half on elite units. I randomly pick out the Treant, a creature with a Resistance 3, which means most attacks, which are 1d6, won't damage it. I use a Bones I Forest Golem that I painted years ago but never played. Only two guys in our party have crossbows (1d6+2 damage), the wizard has pew-pew-pew at 3d3+1 until he runs out of Power, and the thing has 18 Health.
We sure have our work cut out for us. On top of the Treant, I generate a nature-oriented enemy force. Minions are typically one-shot kills, but they can outnumber you quickly. A pack of wolves *and* a pack of dire wolves means the monk gets the job of holding off *ten* wolves, at five wolves per two levels spent. Oh, and we also have a Centaur Brave, and a Bear. Because why not make the game harder?
I figure the plotline is that the village encroaching on the forest isn't appreciated by the local druids. The druids have already reduced one set of buildings to ruins, and the villagers haven't taken the hint. The heroes have somehow agreed to fend off Mother Nature by fighting through the enemies and, to get help, securing and lighting the beacon. Way in the background. Way, waaaay in the background.
A thematic setup has the heroes starting at the settlement side, and the enemies on the wilderness side. Of course, the forest is in the middle of board, so the Treant's Woodland trait means it'll start closer to us. And the wolves *and* centaur have the Quick trait, which means they'll clear 2/3 of the board in two turns.
So, yeah. Despite all the detailed terrain on the battlemap, the heroes did nothing but behind the tavern, taking shots at the Treant. The wizard could only pew-pew-pew for so-many turns before his Power went out, while the cleric Blessed the Rogue's crossbow so he and the Fighter could hit the Treant. Including the bear and centaur, that thing took about seven turns of shooting to take down, even when the wizard was slowing it down by distracting it with the Ventriloquism cantrip.
"Lucky" for us, the scenario ended on turn 8. We're nowhere near the beacon (way in the background), much less any further than where we started. You can see how close the wolves were getting by then. Sorry, anonymous town. The druid got his forest back.
More game session pics on the Reaper forums!

But got more or less tabled on his t4 so last 2 rounds 39-3 for him for 64-69 loss.

Had a bit of fun with a two-table megabattle of 30k, with traitors summoning the daemon lord Gra-Bul'Ah (Hung-Ov'Ah for you puntastic anglophones out there) who eventually got banished back into the Empyrean through sheer embarrassment. Fittingly, the player in control of the mighty daemon marshall after it arrived had been similarly hammered a few hours beforehand. Initially my plan was to throw my Death Guard dreadnought-only vanguard into the Blood Angels to die off in the opening moves of the game so I could then concentrate on taking pictures, but as it turned out, my commanding ancient brother was the only remaining traitor model on the ritual table at the end of it all
On the second table, Mechanicum forces struggled over the control of a possessed Warhound titan while astartes forces savaged the Chaos obelisks around the place.
On the ritual table, my dreads took the fight to the Blood Angels while skies rained fire. Ultimately, two chaplains of the Angels united to crack some heads and caused Gra-Bul'Ah to pop back into non-existence not by dying, but rather through combat resolution loss as too many World Eaters died in the same combat for the might daemon to keep up with

Vanquard nids vs admech.
Basically ran into objectives and past locking them in their dz. 1 each lictor variant handy midfield holder.
None of my units did spectacular killing but as they just needed to soak firepower just fine. Assimilator took out 4 kataprakts. Onager rolled 7/7 4++ so swarmlord had to take it out. Genestealers couple infantry units and then were flamed to death.

Finished my third Encounter in my Five Parsecs from Home campaign. The crew were going to look into doing a job for the local government when a rival got in the way. The rival I got at the end of my last encounter. They turned out to be Corporate Security, and it turned out to be only three. So I decided that Attelus' expy; he was in a merc group who third hand worked for a corporation, and at the end of the war of rebellion against an authoritarian government, the members of the crew fought for the rebellion was victorious. Attelus left that group to start up the crew so he could escape for freedom with the help of his friends and colleagues, he faked his death. But now these Corporate goons have heard he's still alive and investigating into it. There were only three poor saps fighting against my six-man crew, so it was a bit of a walkover. I was considering just having three of my crew fight them to make it even, but the pragmatist in me decided no; besides, I want all of my guys to get the exp.
One enemy, the specialist, had a hand flamer, which was pretty scary, but thankfully Dellenger (the guy with the blue armour and camo cloak) It was also a bit of a shame that I rolled it that they would stop their rivalry, as it would've been pretty cool for Attelus' past to haunt him more in the campaign. But it was also good because they no longer have to deal with any rivals...for now, lol.
The next fight is against seven monsters, Sand Runners, and my Elandria expy cannot take part as I rolled in the Character Scenario that she was too depressed to fight in the next encounter because of the constant bloodshed, which isn't like the real Elandria but oh well. Wish me luck!

Not my last game (as last Wednesday, I played a quick game of Grimdark Future: Firefight and my gaming club but forgot to take photos), But played my 5th Encounter of Five Parsecs from Home, and it was fun. I managed to lure a whole bunch of the enemy into a corridor, then had Not-Attelus throw a grenade into their midst. He hit seven total and killed none of them. I then had Not-Elandria throw another grenade, and she managed to take out two. One because he was Attelus' main target with his grenade, making him already take two stun points, and the other I finally managed to roll a six-sided die four or above, lol. The odds of that must be remarkably low. It was lucky, though, because he was the random target I needed to kill to get me two extra credits due to getting a side job during the campaign turn when one of my characters went exploring. It was fate, I suppose, punishing me for forgetting the enemies (A Brat Gang) had armour, lol.
The game was an easy victory, though. Wanna play my 6th encounter, but been painting my Death Korps of Krieg minis for it, and that was delayed due to being sick for the past few days.

Victory #2 for my Drukhari!
1250 pts, Drukhari vs Blood Angels.
This was a fairly low scoring game 32/12, Drukharis favor.
3 things worked against the Blood Angels in this battle.
1) The BA player couldn't draw a secondary they could achieve to save their life.
2) The BA barely left thier deployment zone.
3) Target priorities- the BA player spent alot of effort trying to destroy my Cronos units. Even after it was pointed out that it's the Talos that're more dangerous

It is a metaphore for many wargames - the winner is decided in the stage of determining who goes first.
At least it is more conclusive than the classic one where a draw is the default result.

Prio rolls gave good vp feed for vampires and i got hit by both very inconveniently.
This was my highlight nuking 20 skeleton and 10 direwolves but then zombie dragon came and took my army off.
With army needing charges being tied up sucks. 2 mages blew up on spell attempts. Last 1 on last turn when i could secure 2nd place but boom and tied 2nd. Got crazy and tried tied win... tiebreaker would probably been on soulblight favour.

Some Bolt Action last night.
My US Army (white base coat) vs US Marines.
The objective was to retrieve the token in the center of the board & exit it off your own board edge.
My 2nd squad to pick up the token barely managed to avoid being assaulted & had to outrun air attacks (the Marine player kept failing to bring an airstrike on them) - but they made it!
Really the game was all about who got to the center the 1st & managed to survive hell being thrown at them for a solid round. I got lucky.

Campaign game all spiderfang vs std.
Quite a lucky win. Without double ever and t2 damage output whiffing hard it was looking super grim for spiderts. However on t4 std he managed to grasp defeat from jaws of victory as somehow therions failed to get 6 wounds past save and 4 chosen failed to do 4 damage to another big spider. 1 dies and mathemathically impossible to win...
Unusual to win with failed gs and opponent scoring theirs. Campaign scenario helped as i got 5-0 extra vp's from empowered objectives(though he got couple hold more as result).
Funny how spiderfangs are objectively bad but i'm on 100% winrate. Small sample size, luck and local meta.
My shaman general went down in blaze of glory doing 18mw and killing off unit of 2 varanguard before dying.

My Eldar ranger/wraithguard vs the GSC.
This was an odd game. Going into turn 4? We were tied 5-5.
Yes, you read that correctly.
This was due to units units dying, units failing battleshock & not having OC when/where needed, contested objectives, and drawing secondaries that just couldn't be achieved.
In the end though the GSC edged out the Eldar 49-35.

I do not.
Even if I had saved the scrap paper we were recording scores on it wouldn't show anything but 2 columns of #s & the final tally. We never bother writing down the source of the pts.

You can buy from Amazon various steampunk cog bits. I recommend getting as small a size as possible. Half the bits I ordered are too large for basing.

We got locally new guy showing interest to 40k. He's planning custodians but to get feel for 40k borrowed my nids. I took sisters figuring this is simple enough matchup without crazyness like tsons could give.
Tight game. Both could have won but couple keyrolls swung in my favour. In 1k games can be quite swingy.
Castigator's 1st outing was big success.
Poor sister squad had to charge broodlord and 2 stealers...unsurprisingly they died without doing single damage but scored secondary, denied primary and kept them in combat for 1 turn.

Year wrapped with bit of khaine vs stormkeep action.
Stormcast went for high risk charge that...did not end well. Buffed up unit, roar failed and above average roliing kept damage quite low. With dragon dying t2 and double for r3 we wrapped it up.
Stormcast had alternative strategy to smash my backline less buffed unit forming screen reducing threats to big dragon(especially in scenario i get double r3) but that would be risky in vp situation especially if i get double r3. Could end up where he smash my army but lose on vp's.

Finally got around to fighting the encounter of my 9th Campaign Turn. I haven't gotten around to playing it yet for a variety of factors (One of them is NOT because I've been playing a lot of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, not at all. It's an awesome game so far, FYI).
The Encounter was my 1st Faction Mission for a Secret Organisation on this world of Sortath (which is out of 4). I chose it because I wanted to gain Loyalty as the things you can get from it are pretty cool) For the 1st time, I rolled up non-human enemies, but robots (which is fitting as Sortath has a bustling robot industry). And the mission was to wipe them out. The game was quite fun; there were six of them, and Attelus managed to personally kill three (one with his Auto Rifle, which looks like an Automatic Handgun, and two with his Glare Sword). The game was a bit of a walkover, but I did use two Story Points to re-roll enemy hits, one on Dellenger and one on Attelus. Torris' Plasma Gun was also a lifesaver. I decided the security robots had gone haywire at a power plant in one of the orbital space stations and went on a rampage, killing many workers, but some escaped, including the supervisor who was a member of this Secret Organisation. He reported it to them, and they got in contact with Attelus after hearing how well he and their team did in the mission for the Patron associated with them before it went out of hand, and the robots might've started sabotaging the power plant to explode.
One thing that was strange was having to roll whether they became rivals after the battle, so I decided that the Rival would've been the people who may or may not have taken control of them (which failed, but it would've been pretty cool if I got that group as a rival, so it was a bit of a shame)
I also succeeded in gaining loyalty with the Secretive Organisation, but it so happened to have a Faction Struggle against the Criminal Enterprise, which had a Power of 5, so they lost, and now I'm afraid they might be wiped out before I can get a favour.
Anyway, fun times!

KOW Ambush. Free Dwarfs v. Imperial Dwarfs (the authoritarian squares). I lost, but this was my first game in a while, and the first with the Ambush rules.
Berserkers are cool. 15 attacks on an unwavering Troop, with Thunderous Charge 1? Yes, please.
Rangers got a single kill - a Hunting Mastiff Pack - and did some damage to his Brock Riders. I think these are good, but not 135 pts a Troop good. I think that Shieldbreakers are probably the better bet.
The Ironbelcher Cannon was OK. It didn't really kill any units on its own, but it filled its role of supporting the actual units.
I brought two Regiments of Ironclads, and I feel that was a good investment for 5+ defense.

The latest game I played in was 'O' Group, a battalion-level set of WWII rules.
The scenario was a meeting engagement between a German and an American battalion in Italy, 1943.
Fierce fighting over the orchards outside the town of Persano saw the Germans occupying them with a fair amount of American losses. The fight slowed down as both sides took potshots at long range, then the Germans started pushing on the flanks.
One highlight was a single American platoon hunkering down in a ravine and foiling a German company's attack.

Painted a few more proxies for Gloomhaven: Crimson Scales!
CS is a free PnP expansion for GH. Requires GH components.
The creators of CS will launch their game Rove next year.
The scenario is still aquatic, so went for water-themed miniatures, rather than proxies based on the enemy artwork.
Lizardmen: Guard.
Turtle Cannoneers: Archer.
Frog Riders: Deep Terror. I looked for an aquatic-themed miniature who matched the powers, rather than the artwork, to proxy the miniature, and the enemy has a six-hex (?) straight piercing attack! This fit well with the frog's tongue, although the enemy doesn't actually move. I figure all the other effects of the enemy are from spells cast by the faerie.
Went through this CS scenario three times as solo, which is hard mode. Failed the first time. Succeeded the second time. Went after the treasure the third time. 🥯🥯🥯
Picture shows the alchemy guy valiantly sacrificing himself to take down a poisoned guard, so that the star guy can get the loot. Huzzah!

Played a game of KT yesterday using an old Battletech map instead of the kt board/3d terrain.
The reason we did this was the shop we played at has a VERY limited amount of 40k scale terrain & almost no place to store it (yet).
And neither of us felt like hauling an extra case of stuff back & forth.
So we tried something more portable.
We also:
Converted all the KT symbols into hexes.
So ○ = 2 hex, etc.
Other than lacking the coolness of 3d it worked just fine.
On this particular map there was a crazy amount of cover. Very appropriate we thought as we were also using the new Jungle rules from WD. (wich are really lackluster btw) BTW.

A couple of nights ago, I finished my 10th Encounter/Campaign Turn of Five Parsecs from Home. For the endgame of the last Encounter, I rolled for the Campaign Event that an old enemy returns. So, I chose the Corporate Security Rival from earlier, as the corporation he escaped from sent another group to murder them. There were 8 of them, and they had powerful ranged weapons. But the game was a walkover for me. Attelus himself went full John Wick and single-handedly killed four with his Auto Rifle. Two with a shot each in a round. In fact, all the Corpo Goons were dead or ran by halfway through the third round. For the extra roll thingy, I got the side mission "Person of Interest", so I decided to represent them with an old Infinity Police Woman mini. I have no idea how I got a hold of it. Lol, Attelus might've been MVP; it was Torris who got the girl. Fun times!
Oh, and if anyone is interested, I began writing a story about my Five Parsecs crew, who are obviously blatant rip-offs of my Secret War characters. Here's the Google Drive link.

I have been playing a lot of Kill Team. Partially because that is what local players are playing, and also because in our club time we can get a game set-up, played, and completed in a timely manner.
Here are my Corsairs battling some Black Legionnaires and some Grey Knights....
I think I got trounced in this one.
You can see some details at the bottom of the blog here. I start talking about some esoteric design stuff before getting onto the Kill Team bonus content:

For Christmas, my party got a present. They didn't die in the scenario! ☠️
This Gloomhaven: Crimson Scales scenario takes place in a flooding chamber. It's a single room, and your heroes have to kill the boss monster. In the game, you use a regular standee as the boss. Boring! So, with the Wildspire Monster set, I used... SHARKNADO BEAR. 🐻 Don't tell him that his miniature is larger than his hex! I also used the Wildspire faeries on toads and D&D Snake miniatures to represent the jumping fast Giant Vipers, and Wildspire Mushroom men for the Lurking Horror monster, which has some spellcasting-like abilities.

For this Crimson Scales scenario, we had to heal four Infected city guards and archers. Except, if you've played Gloomhaven, you might remember how the random draws from the enemy decks resulted in less-than-brilliant enemy behavior. Well, the city guards and archers, once you heal them and they become allies, use their own enemy decks, so, basically valiantly pew-pewed the enemy for a few points of damage, until they got killed. Or got themselves killed. Y'know, it's better to stay put than walk into a 4-damage trap when you only have 4 life points...
For the city archers, I used the Wildspire Monster set's Kitty Pistoliers, and, for the imprisoned City Guards, I used that as an excuse to paint the Goblin Miners. I guess the plot, then, was less that monsters were infecting the city, than the Kitty Pistoliers ate a bad batch of fish, while the Goblin City Guard Sometimes Deadly Mushroom Picking Festival ran into a few problems.

As I said in the "So what are you doing today? Hobbywise only" thread I played my miniature TT Skirmish game The Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game with my friend yesterday. I played as my five man team of the main characters of the novel series, Anargrin (the elf with the blue shirt), Raleas (the chick with the sniper rifle), Jelcine (the woman who looks like no one will expect her), Wilom (the guy with the trench coat and fiery staff) and Emilia (the werewolf). VS a horde army made up of Jaroaite/Jaroaian Extremists (the Chaos Cultists) fighting alongside a bunch of ganger mercs (The orange Orlock gangers) led by an extremist Priest of Jaroai. It was a ton of fun for both of us, despite it being a walk over for me. The huge contributing factor was my friend's terrible rolling as opposed to my fire rolls. So much so I felt frustration on his behalf. It would've been cool if the game was close as I do prefer to lose a close game than win with a walkover (especially when it's due to dice rolls, but it is a dice game so that is that, really) and it'd been cool if it was close as it's the first time we've played in years and my friend helped a ton with world building the continent of Angara.
It was an objective game as you may see from the photos and I used the simple One Page Rules for objectives (1d3+2 objectives, placed by the players by turns, they're sticky so are held by Units until an enemy Unit captures it, and a Unit needs to stay on the objective until the end of the round to secure it. Anargrin, Emilia and Wilom count as being two units as they all cost over 200 points) There was a problem as Anargrin and most of his team (being highly enhanced beings) are so much faster than the Cultists it's ridiculous, so had a huge advantage to reach the four, quite spread out Objective Markers. So I might make it that there will be on average more objectives so 1d6+3? Or something along those lines so the slower moving units might not be at such a large disadvantage.
Uhm yeah, so playtesting. Playtesting never ends, lol.
Edit: I still find it funny I somehow accidentally painted Raleas to make her look like the pop singer Dua Lipa.

Year started finally. 1st with brand new army bonereapers. Forgot like half the rules and made big pile in mistake so after 3rd round called it.
Then campaign game spiderfangs vs glottkin&co.
It was even worse than expected. Durability zero, killed little(3 models all game...).
Glottking 10" charge killing general sealed the game.
When my biggest units take 12/14 wounds on my charge things are bleak.
14-23. Had priority gone my way r4 18-23. If everything falls to my way 20-23 but that was absolute maximum.

We called it after t2 as he had lost most of his stuff while I had plenty of tanks.
Funnily enough I lost more melee rolls...even vs tanks...
Made stupid move with reaver from behind building when his entire army was first fire...well at least took firepower.
T2 he lost 4/6 of his planes which was pretty bad especially as his tanks been murdered. He learned to mind mechanised charges.
Spectacular moment was acastus firing at building holding 8 tacticals, 4 missile and commander. Came down killing all but commander and 2 tacticals...ouch.

And then we played battle tech....in spaaaaceeee-

Just starting this Gloomhaven: Crimson Scales scenario, in which the party accidentally releases a bunch of demons and some Vermling Scouts who have been experimented upon. Whoopsie!
Opening pic shows a lot of enemies. Playing solo, so I get "perfect information" while the game goes up in difficulty (higher level monsters). The acrylic tokens and condition markers show plan out the first turn -- if things turn out right! As before, I'm using the Wildspire Monster set as proxies for the Gloomhaven monsters.
Skullboy will poison three enemies.
Neil deGrasse is going to make his enhanced ranged attack against three opponents, combined with an ability that adds negative conditions.
Chainguy will shackle the flying goblin shaman and smash him into a column.

Finally finished painting the new enemies for my 11th Encounter. This one was a Raid as during the Post-game of the last Campaign Turn I had bad luck in my Campaign Event and got a new rival that I had to fight in the next Encounter.
I used the storage part of the Starship Vengeance box to represent my ship and made the docking Bay like the one in Footfall from Rogue Trader but also full of shops trying to sell wares to crews docked there, and my big white building was where the dock security monitor the arrivals, etc.
The enemy were vigilantes (and I don't know why they hate my crew so much, yet, they haven't done anything criminal, if anything they've been fighting criminals lol). Despite being one of the weakest enemies I've fought so far, they were the most dangerous by far, lol. Their rolls were on fire 6's, almost across the frigging board. I also lost my new crew member, a Soulless I named Zolcatar, in the 1st round (new model syndrome, am I right?) And Elandria in the last I let Elandria go go down because she had that trait which allowed her to ignore a roll on the Injury Table and Zolcatar because I didn't care, lol. In the first round, I had Attelus, Dellenger, and Adelana pour fire at the Hunting rifle specialist on the right flank but only managed to stun him twice.
In the 2nd round, Attelus killed the sniper. Then, using his Tactical Training, he moved into the big building to go around and flank the enemies as Adelana, Dellenger, and poor Zolcatar drew the enemy's attention. After Attelus killed one, either Dellenger or Adelana cut down another, which caused the leader to run at the end of the round.
When he and Elandria flanked them on the top of the entrance, it was over. Attelus shot down one, then Elandria another, but the last managed to cut her down with his Hand laser before Torris flanked him and avenged Elandria by vaporizing the poor bastard's torso with a deluge of plasma.
I used Zolcatar instead of Garrakson despite him being 10x better (and lent it Garrakson's rattle gun) because I wanted Zolcatar to gain exp, and thanks to a Character Event during the last endgame, Garrakson couldn't gain any experience.
I got Zolcatar using a faction favour and rolled him up, but he wasn't really worth the effort, to be honest, lol. He lived but must spend three Campaign Turns recovering and I don't think I'll invest any credits speeding that along, in all honesty.
Anyway, I rolled a civil war on the instability table as the number reached 15, and I'm considering re-rolling it with a Story Point, but it might be interesting to see how things go down and might be profitable for my crew being mercs (is there a way for the factions to be involved Ivan Sorensen as it'd pretty cool).
Anyway, fun times!

I played another game of Downsync, testing out a new scenario with reserves instead of the normal capture objectives or wipe out the other side scenarios.
The scenario needed a couple tweaks (like a turn limit) but having a third/quarter of the force on a off-table flanking maneuver makes you think, especially when you incorporate the fact that pings are indeterminate units until they are revealed. So it's a balance of attacking and forcing your opponent to reveal their on-table units which removes their options for the flanking reserves, while also having enough of a defense to hold off those reserves.

3k pt game between Custodes/iKnights vs a Tau/Guard/Grey Knight alliance.
Victory: the T/G/GK alliance. 76 to 40something.
My Tau & Guard partners did most of the heavy lifting combat wise. My GKs, with their movement shenanigans, took care of scoring secondaries.
In the end? The tau player was reduced to 1 Skyray, the Guard player had 1 Demolisher, 1 Vanquisher, and an enraged Tech priest. Me? I lost 4 of the 8 models I started with (a GMNDK, GM x2, & a Brother Captain).
The Knights were tabled & the custodes had Trajan + 4 Custodes holding the far western objective.

More Titanicus goodness at the club. This year started with a bang, as our annual-ish AT mega-battle expanded into a two-day narrative event. I wrote custom missions so that we could first play three rounds of 1v1 games on Saturday where the winning side could dictate environmental conditions for the following round as well as earn some neat bonii for Sunday's all-in brawl.
-- War for the Angel's Grave 3.-4.2.2024 --
An ancient repository of knowledge, a forbidden and sealed esoteric weapon best forgotten or a relic of the broken dream now irrepairably lost? No-one knew precisely what the arcology known as the Angel's Grave held within its confines, but when Warmaster Horus decreed it to be taken, neither did his lackeys question the wisdom of such orders. Under the capricious auspices of the dark gods, god-machines marched into their dropships and hurtled through the blazing voids of the war-stricken galaxy with murder in their hearts...
The traitors slam down on the unsuspecting planet in the dark of night and spread out. From the barely habited outskirts, legios Krytos, Omina and Mortis plunge deep into the planet's infrastructure as the surprised loyalists scramble to face the threat. Legios Solaria, Astorum and Magna jump to hold the line and manage to stem the initial tide despite Krytos wreaking havoc on their communication towers. As the loyalist line refuses to crumble, their reserves in space enter the system and carve a bloody swathe through the traitors' fleet. As burning ships, scrap and satellites fall down on the planet in a rain of fire, the loyalist legios sally forth in a counter-attack to drive the traitors back. This seems to work, securing the defenders a decisive advantage in planetside artillery assets, until for the sudden and totally unforeseen betrayal by the Screaming Skulls! Who'd have thought those guys weren't on our side, absolutely shameful. With this stab in the back, both sides are forced to accept that this conflict will go on for a while and stock up on supplies from the available storages and techno-magi. With reserves from legio Favilla stepping onto the field to plug the hole left by Magna's treachery, the loyalists once more secure the continuing support of the Mechanicum and converge on the final showdown.
Four traitor commanders square against three loyalists with some 30 titans and 20 knights stalking the field. Ultramarines and Death Guard models are there to represent area control over various important objectives on the table as well as the critical supply depots no side can wage war without.
Astorum's supreme loyalist command leaves the supply depot lightly guarded, focusing their knightly allies on the right flank.
Traitors, acutely aware of their tenuous grasp on the planet, guard theirs keenly with the newly arrived Tiger Eyes' deployment.
As the fight begins, deafening roar of war-horns fills the centre as Favilla pushes forwards. Fallen knights are vaporised before their volcano cannons, swatted aside like gnats as more worthy foes approach from Krytos' lines.
On all flanks, forces advance into the fire.
In the middle, Excidium Ultimum and Deus Victrix hear the siren song of the Thunderdome. Two god-machines enter, who will leave?
Fighting intensifies on the flanks, as Mortis reaches one of the habitats in force and knights swarm towards Omina's positions.
Sensing an opportunity, one of Omina's Warhounds sneaks to threaten the loyalist supplies as Krytos' devastating volleys savage the Astorum Warmaster guarding them.
Despite losing its fist to Deus Victrix' fire, Excidium Ultimum saws the upstart God-Breaker in half and casts its broken form down in ruin, almost decapitating Ibn Faruq below with its mass. Glory is fleeting, however, as unabated firepower from most of the Tiger Eyes' battleline causes the injured Warmaster to crash down from its throne all the same.
On the left flank, Solaria's brazen charge cuts deep into the lighter Mortis engines as a column of Ultramarines follows in their wake to wipe out the Death Guard attempting to seize the habitat. Yet with their supplies under threat, it is all nearly futile.
Fighting to salvage the situation, Delictor Profectuum ploughs through Krytos' fire and the wrecked corpses of their comrades towards the supply depot with all systems burning. Perhaps they could have made it, if not for the relentless shelling of Quake munitions raining on them, causing the ground under their buckling legs to undulate like tortured jelly with each booming shot. Valiantly, if desperately, later reserve Cerastoi rush to try and relieve the Ultramarines at any price.
The traitors are similarly pressed, now, with Mortis crumbling before Solaria's advance. Favilla's heavy guns blow out one of Fureans' Warlords nearby and seal the deal as the remaining traitorous knights are slaughtered to the last.
Triumphantly, Krytos' sole remaining Warlord Braccus Rex sidesteps the futile knight charge and guns down the immobilised Delictor Profectuum, trumpeting its ownership of the loyalists' supply depot.
With fires burning all over the broken and mangled countryside, it is eventually clear to the loyalist side that their tactical situation is untenable. While the traitors are trapped and caught stranded in the bigger picture, unable to hold the planet and will soon all be hunted down, on this day they have by the barest of margins bought enough time for their techno-magi to complete their dark purpose at the Angel's Grave itself. For the Warmaster, they cry in the all-consuming ritual flames!
-------
A very slight Traitor victory after six rounds, 225 to 168 points (with one good turn able to swing 50+ points)! Loyalists killed more and took ground more aggressively, but with their supply lines left basically undefended by the supreme command's strategic blunder, they were unable to capitalise on this advantage, scoring no control points for the whole game after the first round. Not that the traitors had much more luck on that front, with loyalists having more men and machines on most strategic zones after the first third of the game, but that early lead let them coast pretty far. That element certainly brought a good dynamic to the match, with everyone involved until the end and multiple possible game-changing maneuvers hanging at singular dice rolls. If Delictor Profectuum hadn't been slowed down by Quake shell and immobilised ½" too far from the supplies, for example, it could have gone very much the other way. Still loving all of that.
Thanks for reading and happy wargaming!

WOW! That Titanicus battle..... jaw dropping.....
My first wargaming of 2024 was the start of a Kill Team narrative campaign.
The Hand of the Archon takes on some Vet Guardsmen during the Siege Perilous around Powellington.
My Hand of the Archon were fighting for the forces of Chaos, and brought home the first Chaos victory.
You can read some details about the campaign and prep work on the blog if that is your thing:

100pt Flames of War (Team Yankee) intro battle today.
US Abraham's detachment & support vs Soviet T72 detachment & support.
I supplied both forces & gave the new would-be player control of the US.
(My US is easier to play for a beginner & will cause massive destruction to my Soviets. I WANTED him to enjoy devastating my forces, afterall I'm trying to sell him on the game. )
Where we ended?
The US player had indeed caused much damage. And he was happy & sure he was a strong position had the game continued....
I on the other hand knew exactly how fragile his position really was concerning the morale rules.
Future turns could easily have ended in his check morale stages....

Playing a small teaching game with my 9-year old son with a ruleset called Hobgoblin, which is a soon to be released minis agnostic rank n' flank game by the same guy that designed the car combat game Gaslands. We are using minifigures because he loves LEGO and I have been building a multi-army collection with the plan of using it to tempt him into gaming.
So far we have been slowly building a shared Fantasy world using only LEGO minifigures where we are going to use this game Hobgoblin for mass battles, and Age of Fantasy: Skirmish by One Page Rules for....well, skirmishes. I am also looking over several rules-lite games to use for RPG adventures.

Some Legion Imperialis.
Not exactly a "legal" force on my opponents end.
He's had alot of trouble getting additional SM stuff.
So we set this game to 1 legal formation + a Riever.
I fielded 1 legal formation (las tercio) + the pts of the Reaver (I don't have one built yet....) as a tank co. Total pts value = to his.
Fun enough game, I won 12/9

Tonight's clash of titans:
My Drukhari vs a whole bunch of little Chaos Knights.
It was a really good & close game - right up until turn 5 when the Knights gained a small lead I couldn't quite match. They beat me by 11 pts.
Two units tied for bragging rights (& paint!)
●The Succubus took out a damaged Carnivore on a charge.
●A Slythe picked off the final wound of another Carnivore while firing overwatch!

Tson vs ultramarines. Resounding loss.
Got close to lucking out when lancer, 6 plasma inceptor, 2 eradicator and 6 aggressor all buffed up didn't kill magnus. Calgar&aggressor charge 9" succeeded alas.
Had that failed i would have nuked his damage dealers largely and took hold of key objective. And he still needs to deal with magnus now hidden from lancer.

Had a threeway KT21 Open world game, Mission was 1.1 "Prime Position" from the 2022 Annual. Interecession vs Corsairs vs Legionnaire.
Interecession ended up as team A and won the game 8-2-2. It was my first game playing Corsairs, and they are tricky to play well. I lost too many specialists early on and the rest of the team disintegrated to interecession boltgun fire. Meditating what to switch up for the next game..
